I didn't know some of these were remakes. Number 04 would be
a sequal huh? Those are much more worse than remakes most of
the time.

I don't know if it is a horror remake but the great 1956 Invasion of the Body Snatchers has been remade twice and were both poor in comparison with the original. I think a fourth remake is under way.

The Grudge was like that too. I bought the DVD and they were
explaining how difficult it was to convert because of the
differences in cultures. What something symbolizes in Japan has
a completely different interpretation here in the states.

To be honest I'm not sure. I wouldn't doubt it though.

i enjoyed these:

02...Dark Water (2005) (not as good as the original--but the acting was well done...great cast....semi enjoyable)

03...The Fog (2005) (cheesy goodness--liked the history in the remake)

07...Halloween (2007) (not near as good as the original--rob zombie always has to show boobies in his movies which to me is pointless in a horror movie....because i watch them for scare factors and for blood nothing else--but the history was decent.)

08...One Missed Call (2008) (no where NEAR the original, but it was a movie i can watch again--which just for the record One Missed Call 2 is even better than the 1st one.)

09...The Grudge (2004)/ The Grudge 2 (2006) (the grudge and grudge 2 were flippin sweet! they were directed by the same japanese director that directed ju-on. i sometimes wonder what people are smoking when they watch movies.)

11...Thirteen Ghosts (2001) (cheesy goodness in all its glory!!! i love 13 ghosts remake.)

14...The Omen (2006) (the original will forever be one of my all time fave horror movies--the darkness of the original can never be redone. having said that, seeing mia farrow play the nanny in the original was aweeesome!)

15...Psycho (1998) (it was interesting--especially since it was the 1st time anyone had ever remade a movie as an exact replica)

The basic problem IMO in Asian Horror remakes is not just the difference in culture but also the American version dumbs it down and tries to explain things

The eye is a perfect example..in the Asian version their is no scientific reason, it just is what it is..in the American version it is all about cellular memory

Also in Asian movies the scare is not just the ghost, but the atmosphere of the moment..The curse(which is SO HUGE in the asian movies has no real meaning here) gets lost in the story

Buffy and I LOVE the Asian horror movies, pretty much all we get from Netflix..Some of the American versions are not bad( We like Grudge and Grudge 2, no not as good as the Asian ones, but not as bad as some make them out to be) while ones like The Eye, and pulse fell flat

I am really curious to see how the Remake of the Tale of Two Sisters is done, that is one creepy and haunting original movie

That is so true. I just watched the Thai version of "Shutter", and my roommate (who is Vietnamese) was trying to explain all of the symbolism that goes along with the movie. After hearing about all of it, it made the movie twice as scary
