Ricky Lock’s tenure as Gonzales’ athletic director and head football coach was successful and short.

Lock has resigned after one season to accept a position as athletic director and head football coach at Class 3A Gainesville.

Lock’s hiring was approved by the Gainesville school district board of trustees at Monday night’s meeting.

Lock, who was unavailable for comment on Tuesday, had a 10-3 record at Gonzales and led the Apaches to a second-place finish in District 29-3A and the Division I quarterfinals.

Lock, who was hired at Gonzales in February of 2007, has been a head coach for 12 seasons at Runge, Elgin and Woodville.

He has an overall record of 80-49 that includes 10 playoff appearances and three trips to the quarterfinals.

What I liked about the man is that he took the talent he had and used it in a very effective way. Gonzales had lots of skill players but didn't have too many hosses on the line. Coach Lock and his assistants worked out a system that worked very well for the Apaches.
