This was a REAL killer to put together because I had to go team by team, figure out which years they competed in 3A and then compile their win-loss records for those seasons only so I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few errors here and there. Let me know if you spot any and I'll be happy to correct them.
This is the cumulative records of all teams that have been classified as 3A from 1980-2007 counting ONLY the records from those seasons. 342 different schools have competed at least one season in 3A UIL football competition over the past 28 years. As 28 is only divisible evenly by relatively few numbers I divided it up into 4 periods of 7 seasons each which seemed to fit nicely into distinct eras of particular teams' dominance.
1980-1986: the Daingerfield era, losing only 3 games in 5 seasons playing in 3A, winning 2 state titles and making a 3rd final with a 95% win percentage
1987-1993: the Southlake Carroll era, winning more games in a 7 season period than any other team in Texas High School football history past or present, and collecting 3 state titles.
1994-2000: the Sealy/Commerce era, with 5 state titles (Commerce got an additional one in 2001) and 8 state finals appearances between the two of them
2001-2007: ???? there hasn't been one really dominant program over the most recent 7 year period. Liberty Hill and Everman have two titles each. Gilmer has the most wins.
The following table is divided into 5 parts. The first is cumulative win totals over the entire 28 year period from 1980-2007. Then each 7 year block of time is covered individually. The column labelled "Yrs 3A" is the number of seasons each program competed as a 3A school during the time period listed.
At the end of the post you will find a single graphic listing all 342 schools ever to compete in 3A since 1980 ranked by total wins. The total number of seasons playing as a 3A school is listed in the far right column. This is just meant as a reference for those interested.
