The Atlantic 10 has 14 teams how come its not the Atlantic 14 or the Big 11?

20/31 (65%) conferences received 1 bid (the automatic one)

Okay time for my personal thoughts. First off I think the committee did a pretty good job like it always does, but there are several things I'd change.

6 SEC team?! I don't think they deserved that many. UK should be playing in the NIT. The Big 12 was very fortunate to get 6. I think K State hurt themselves in noncoference. That's why they get an 11. Because BU is an 11, they have a better shot of going farther than TAMU (because they'll have to play UCLA if they get past BY-who). Not to say they either will go anywhere ...

South Bama, 10 seed?! NO WAY. They can't even win their crappy conference and they get a 10. I was thinking they'd get less than that IF they won it. Sorry Va. Tech.

I agree with the 1 seeds. But there are several seeds I was a little surprised by (like South Alabama). I guess I'm done for now because I know I might be typing for a while if I don't give it a rest.

And not that this means much of anything, but I just thought it'd be interesting to look at.

Average seed for each conference (minimum of 3 teams)

ACC - 3.75
Big East - 5.38
Pac 10 - 5.5
Big 10 - 5.5
Big 12 - 6.67
SEC - 8
A 10 - 8.67
West Coast - 10

You would think the more bids you have to worse your average would be which generally seems to be the case, but the Big East has the second best average. Not trying to imply anything, but that looks pretty impressive.

Dont feel sorry for Va Tech when you beat 1 top 50 RPI team in like 8 tries with an average record you get what you get.

I didn't say they weren't good, but a 10? I just don't see how they merit a 10. After glancing at their schedule it looks like their only quality win was against Miss. St. ... although they did play Vandy close.

memphis in conference play is crap as well... so do they deserve a 6 or lower?

I guess you're right. But I think they're the first ACC team to have a winning conference record and not make the tourney.

I think their conference is better with UAB and Houston, but this is much more important - wins over OU, UConn, USC, G-town, Zona, and Gonzaga. Barely lost to Tenn.

Not too shabby

I have them going to the championship. I hope I didn't jump on the Pitt band wagon too soon. I don't know why, but now after having them go that far I'm feeling a loss from Michigan State. Ugh ...

Last night on Bracketology they were talking about having the best 64 (or 65 if you wanna get technical) teams in the tourney, which would mean getting rid of the automatic bids. This is a very interesting subject to me.

On the one side it makes sense to have to best teams make it. But on the other, the automatic bids are the only way some teams will EVER make the tournament.

What I think is made too much of a big deal is the conference tournaments. I hate hearing "they really hurt their chances by not winning a game" or "this team needs at least two wins to have a shot at making the dance." Half a week shouldn't be weighed so heavily IMHO.

I guess when it all comes down to it the current system is 100 times better than the BCS.
