5,500 HOMES FOR LEANDER, LIBERTY HILL

AUSTIN (Austin Business Journal) – Work has begun on the first two sections of a residential development that could bring as many as 5,500 new homes to Leander and Liberty Hill. Gunn & Whittington Development is the developer of the three subdivisions.

Rancho Sienna on Parmer Lane in east Leander is 610 acres. Middlebrook, along Hwy. 29 in Liberty Hill, is 400 acres. Santa Rita, also in Liberty Hill, is 1,200 acres.

Construction on the first 167 lots of Rancho Sienna and the first phase of Middlebrook has begun. Buildout is expected to take five years. Plans for Santa Rita call for buildout completion in nine or ten years.

Middlebrook homes will range from the $140,000s to $220,000s. In the other two subdivisions, prices will be from the $200,000s to $400,000s.

Went thru there a couple of weeks ago, what used to be raw pastures just 2-3 years ago, are now sub-divisions, noticed Liberty Hill's city limit sign is on 183 now at Seward Junction, not too long ago you had to look hard to find the town of Liberty Hill when driving around.

4A is not a fun place to go to.

Don't worry. We'll be 3A for another 4-6 years if not a little longer. When we start to get close, we could always do away with open enrollment. That's probably something we should do away with anyway. I think that brings in more troubled kids to the district than anything else. Open enrollment kids aren't eligible for varsity competition in UIL activities, so when we approach 900, it would be a good idea to eliminate them. If we didn't have it now, our enrollment would more than likely be under 700.

I see a trip to 4A within the next two realignments. Once the growth starts you just can't slow it down. 4A isn't a fun place to be at. Ask Forney about it. Heck ask my high school, Lampasas, how much fun 4A has been. A grand total of three trips to the playoffs since the move up in 94 after being a perennial playoff team for almost a decade down in 3A.

I agree the move to 4A can be painful. Going from big dog to little pup ain't much fun!

I don't think Burnet's drop down to 3A will last terribly long........but, with so many new schools sliding into the upper end of 4A and bottom of 5A, who can tell.

I've heard rumors that Marble Falls ISD is growing so fast the board's long range plan includes a high school in the Spicewood area......WOW!

Being 275 students below the cutoff with the cutoff continuously rising, I don't see us being on the bubble in 2010. I think we'll be a bubble school in 2012.

2000: 405 (844)
2002: 464 (899)
2004: 535.5 (899)
2006: 599 (949)
2008: 704 (979)

2010: ~800-850
2012: ~950-1000

I agree that moving up to 4A can be tough, but in some of the examples brought up, the move up to 4A coincided with a drop in talent. There have been schools move up and continue their success, paricularly when the growth continues. Many schools that struggle move up and their growth levels off at the bottom of 4A. When Liberty Hill moves up, the growth will continue. Coach Vance and his assistants are the main reason our football program turned around, but aiding in the turn around was the growth in the district. With the program in place and participation continuing to increase, I don't envision a move up ruining what Liberty Hill has going...that is, unless a coach comes in and tries to install the spread offense.

I don't think coach Walker will do that

WHAT ARE Y'ALL TALKING ABOUT? LHILL CAN BEAT MOST 4A SCHOOLS RIGHT FREAKING NOW!

AND FORNEY? GIVE ME A BREAK. THERE IS NO, AND I MEAN NO, TALENT THERE. WITHOUT DABRYAN THEY NEVER WOULD HAVE BEEN COMPETITIVE IN THE FIRST PLACE.

AND THE "WISE" SCHOOL OFFICIALS THERE CAME UP WITH A WONDERFUL PLAN...

"OPEN A SECOND SCHOOL, WHICH WILL ALSO BE 4A, AND CUT WHAT LITTLE ATHLETES THEY MIGHT HAVE COMING IN HALF!"

THEY SHOULD HAVE STAYED 1 SCHOOL AND GONE TO 5A.
