Wylie defeated Vernon 10-4 this afternoon at the Waco Regional Tennis Center to claim their 5th state championship in 7 years.

This continues the amazing streak for Wylie tennis which includes ...

8 consecutive regional championships
9 consecutive state finals
2000, 2001, 2003, 2007 state finalist
2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008 state champions

Pretty dang impressive resume for Wylie tennis.

this isn;t uil is it bc the uil website doesn't mention it...i know fairfield doesn't have it either

1A, 2A, and 3A team tennis is organized by Texas Tennis Coaches Association.

4A and 5A were also the same until the late 80s/early 90s when they moved into UIL.

I think Wharton got 4th. Wharton lost to Vernon in the semi finals and then I think they lost to Canyon in the 3-4 match, I was too busy watching Wylie and Wharton/Canyon finished before Wylie.

Wharton doesn't seem as powerful as they were a few years back. They were loaded in 03,04, and 05. Wylie must be amazing though with that type of streak.

I wouldn't say they were loaded in those years ... this year they did better than they have in several years ... Wylie beat them in the quarterfinals a couple of years in a row around that 02-04 time.

And yes, Wylie has had some good teams in the past 8 or 9 years ... going back to Adidas' days.

I looked at Waco Tribune but they didn't have any results

Wharton is pretty young this year, lost some talented seniors to graduation last year.

They won their 8th straight Region VI team tennis championship two weeks ago in Katy


They always dominate 24-3A and send almost entire team to regional

They will be in Region IV next year
