Rusk set to hire Elysian Fields' Ted Patton...
KTBB Sports and Smoaky.com has learned Rusk I.S.D. will hire Ted Patton as their new athletic director and head football coach.
Patton, who led Elysian Fields to the Class 2-A Division II State Championship Game, had an overall record of 27-12 in three years with the Yellowjackets.
Patton confirmed he was told he'd be recommended to the Rusk ISD school board on Monday, and if confirmed, he'll accept the job and start sometime later this month.
Patton replaces Wayne Mahaffey, who was reassigned last month.
Patton was one of four finalists, with the others including Clint Harper, passing and kicking game coordinator at Leander; Tom Sheppard, defensive coordinator at Tatum; Chris Taber, offensive coordinator at New Braunfels.
