Sinton loses to Tuloso Midway 6-0. That team just has our #. They have a good pitcher, but she was off tonight and we still couldn't get anything going. Mental, mental, mental. grrrrrr.

Have a good tourney coming up in Corpus, with lots of good competition this weekend. Here's hoping the girls come ready to play!

It was a tough loss, starting pitcher out, too many errors and just couldn't get much going on O

Stalder, Cantrell play longball in 4-3 win over Burnet

Lindsey Cantrell, the heavy-hitting Liberty Hill catcher for the LHHS softball team, commented before Tuesday night’s contest against Burnet that she hoped to catch up to teammate Blair Stalder in home runs.
Cantrell promptly smashed her first homer of the season in the bottom of the first inning. But not to be outdone, Stalder cranked out a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth.
Good thing, too, as Stalder’s solo shot held up to help carry the Lady Panthers to a 4-3 victory over Burnet.
Stalder, who’s really showing her team leadership as a senior, led the LHHS offense by going 2-for-3 and reaching base three times (she was hit by a pitch in the first inning). Stalder scored two of her team’s four runs, as she came home on Cantrell’s first-inning, two-run blast that sailed over the right-center field fence.
Katelyn Zurovec, the junior lefthander, was effective both on the mound and at the plate. The 6-foot tall lefty went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored. On the mound, she pitched the entire seven innings, giving up eight hits, three runs (two earned) while walking just one and striking out five. “Z,” as she’s called, threw 106 pitches, with 62 of those coming in the first three innings.
For Burnet, Chelsi Nelson went 3-for-4 with one run scored while pitcher Nicole Kyle was also 3-for-4. Former LHHS student Kayci East, batting leadoff for the Lady Bulldogs, drove in one run with an RBI triple.
An error by the Lady Panthers allowed Burnet to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Liberty Hill answered with three runs in the first, as Stalder led off by getting hit by a Kyle pitch then scored two outs later on Cantrell’s first homer.
However, the Lady Panthers weren’t done in the first. Zurovec followed Cantrell’s blast with a single; she was replaced by courtesy runner Cayla Lattimore, who then advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Chelsea Leath struck out but the ball got away from catcher East, who then overthrew first base. That overthrow allowed Lattimore to trot home, giving LHHS a 3-1 lead.
East’s RBI triple in the top of the second drew the Lady Bulldogs back within one at 3-2.
Stalder came to bat with two down in the bottom of the fourth. The spunky second baseman, who slammed a solo home run in Liberty Hill’s game Friday night against Giddings, sent Kyle’s second pitch over the wall in center field, giving LHHS a 4-2 lead.
That lead stood up until the top of the seventh. Kyle singled with one out then took off for home as Callie Sellers sent a shot past Leath in left that rolled to the wall. However, Leath got the ball to Sproul at short; Sproul then fired to catcher Cantrell, who put the tag on a sliding Kyle before Kyle could reach home plate.
That defensive gem turned out to be a big play, as the next batter, Jessica Young, singled to bring in Sellers and close the gap to 4-3. Zurovec got out of the jam – and the game – by getting Nelson to ground out into a force play at third base.
