Geez I would've thought it would've been McGrady, not Yao...Is there any other franchise that has had as bad a run at luck over such a prolonged period of time when it comes to injuries as Houston has?

i hate to see players get injured...

but...

IMO

yao = overrated

he is only an all-star because 2 billion chinese people vote for him each year...

t-mac is the key guy to get to the playoffs...once they are there, he probably cant do anything, again, but he is the key to getting them there...

he's averaging 22 points and 11 boards a game. He will be sorely missed by the rockets. He's not overrated as fas as his importance to the team. I saw some stats where the rockets had a better record with Yao playing and mcgrady injured as opposed to the games where Mcgrady played and Yao was out with injury.

That is too bad. Without him they won't go far in the playoffs if they get there. Tough luck. :(

A team with great expectations will now struggle to keep their playoff spot and will do nothing even if they make it in. This injury just destroyed this season and it's a shame because they had as good a chance as anyone. Should come back better next season with a better understanding of Rick Adelman's System, so here's to a great 08-09 Season.

Do the Rockets make the playoffs? Last season, Houston was 22-10 without Yao Ming.

Was that this season? no

Dallas could of not had dirk for 32 games last year and made the playoffs to.

It will be much harder for Landry/Scola/ Head/ Battier/ etc to get open looks with other teams neglecting our low post on defense rather than giving a ton of attention to it.

There goes their chances of doing much in n the playoffs if they blow and not make them

Rockets have bad luck like other pro teams in Houston,

Will have to use injuries as an excuse like Texans and Astros do

Yeah, but the West is much tougher this year than it's ever been IMO. They just went 20-3 and gained one position in the standings, and that was at full strength. If they make it they will be very fortunate.

...and in related news Mark Stein drops the Rockets in the power rankings from 3rd to 15th.:(

Yao's abscence is not bothering them tonight as they lead 55-28 over Washington in the 3rd Qtr.

They actually were in 10th place and have moved up to #7. They also passed Utah, but the Jazz get the 4th seed because they lead their division. Right now, 2 games separate six teams from the 2nd positon.

But Utah wouldn't necessarily get the home court advantage with the 4th seed if the 5th seed has a better record.

Agree, Yao is not overrated. He has a very good touch and can be almost unstoppable because of his height. One of the best big man at shooting free throws and an above average rebounder. He does have problems with coordination, turnovers and he doesn't jump very well. His conditioning has really improved, but staying healthy has been a big problem these last couple of years. Yao is also one of the hardest workers you will find in the NBA.
