That's quite a contrast from the football team.

Snyder started the season off with an impressive win over 5A Abilene High, 9-3. Complete game by Day. The Eagles appeared to have a pretty good team - the game was tied 2-2 going into the 7th. Snyder came alive offensively as Riley Davis smashed a 3 run homer. Snyder looked pretty good defensively. Good win for the Tigers.

Varsity baseball team loses to rival Burnet in season opener

By Chuck Licata
Independent Sports

Starting with the 2008-09 season, Liberty Hill and Burnet (which sit just 22 miles apart down Hwy. 29 West) will be in the same district.
But for the 2008 baseball season, the Panthers and Bulldogs are simply neighborhood rivals.
The Bulldogs got the best of the Panthers as they took advantage of four LHHS errors and swept away with a 9-5 victory Tuesday night at Panthers Field.
The Panthers rapped out six hits over the seven-inning contest, leaving three men on base. Burnet stroked out seven hits.
Mike Kristan’s Panthers hit the scoreboard first, scratching out a run in the home half of the first. Jake Ott, the LHHS leadoff hitter, led off with a single and moved to second when teammate Ryan Cox walked.
Burnet starting pitcher Todd Hoffmeister, a lefty, had a high kick out of his stretch motion so the Panthers took advantage.
Before Hoffmeister threw a pitch to the next batter (Ty Moore), Ott bolted for third base. Hoffmeister threw the ball away allowing Ott to score.
But two errors by the Panthers in the second inning led to four unearned runs. Liberty Hill answered with a run in the home half of the second. Dylan Piskoric led off with the single. On a 1-0 pitch to Clint Gavin, Piskoric took off for second. The throw from BHS catcher C.J. Gilbert sailed into center field and Piskoric quickly got up and headed for third. Burnet center fielder Kyle Brunson grabbed the errant throw but made one himself, allowing Piskoric to come all the way home and close the gap to 4-2.
But LHHS erred again in the third inning, giving Burnet a 5-2 lead. Chandler West (3-for-3, 3 RBI) crushed a solo homer to lead off the sixth inning, pushing Burnet’s lead to 6-2.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Panthers struck back for a run. Moore led off with walk and promptly stole second. He proceeded to steal third then scored on a wild pitch by Hoffmeister. Tyke Seclock reached third base but was left there.
The Panthers, trailing 9-3 after Burnet tacked on another three-spot in the top of the seventh, started another rally in the ninth. With one out, pinch-hitter Ty Roberts singled to center and moved to third on Kyle Steinbach’s double to right-center field – John Keefe came in to run for Steinbach.
With two out, Cox rapped an infield single, scoring Roberts with a run and moving Keefe to third. A passed ball allowed Keefe to score from third, creating the final scoring margin of 9-5.
