NEW ORLEANS – A lawsuit filed Friday by a former St. Louis Rams player and others seeks millions of dollars in damages from the alleged taping of Rams practices by the New England Patriots before the 2002 Super Bowl.

This will get tossed out on summary judgment. There is absolutely no evidence that they would have won the game. None. Like the 54 million dollar pants and 54 million dollar laptop suits. Just a crock.

Yeah I agree. There is absolutely no way to prove that what the Patriots did caused them to win the game. It would have to be beyond a shadow of a doubt it caused a difference. I think in all honesty it couldn't have that much outcome on a game. I've seen plenty of teams that knew exactly what was coming at them on a play not be able to stop it.

The thing is that things like this can tarnish super bowl wins.

Ex-Pats video man seeking protection

Walsh willing to help; former Ram, fans suing New England

11:29 PM CST on Friday, February 15, 2008
Associated Press

The lawyer for former New England Patriots employee Matt Walsh said his client is willing to turn over videotapes he made for the team if the NFL guarantees Walsh protection from lawsuits or other legal action.

Attorney Michael Levy said that the NFL's initial proposals are not sufficient protection for Walsh, who is said to have taped the St. Louis Rams' walkthrough practice the day before they played the Patriots in the 2002 Super Bowl. The Patriots won, 20-17.

A former Rams player and three fans are suing the Patriots for $100 million over the alleged taping.

Willie Gary, a former safety, and the other plaintiffs accuse the Patriots of fraud, unfair trade practices and engaging in a "pattern of racketeering" in their federal lawsuit, filed in New Orleans.

The Patriots' taping of opposing coaches' signals did not affect the outcome of games against the Steelers, including two AFC Championship Games, Steelers chairman Dan Rooney said.

Rooney's comments followed remarks Thursday by U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., who has questioned whether the NFL has properly handled the allegations against the Patriots.

NFL officials indicate the Patriots taped the Steelers' coaches during AFC Championship Games at the end of the 2001 and 2004 seasons, and during regular-season games in 2002 and 2004, Specter said. The Steelers lost all but the '04 regular-season game.

In the midst of all the Spygate news, the NFL donated 290 Patriots hats and an equal number of team jerseys trumpeting the slogans "Super Bowl Champions, 19-0" to impoverished children from two small communities in southern Nicaragua
