I'm putting together a few simple tables for another project and thought I'd post them here as there might be some interested.... Here's the first, which shows all programs ever to participate in 3 state championship games or more.

Years in BOLD indicate Championships
This includes 6-man, 8-man and 11-man football
Ch=Total # of Championships
Ru=Total # of times as runnerup

good info......i still hoping plano can get one in the next 3 years....so that they would have at least one in every decade since the 60's...................everyone always talks about slc, celina and permian.....plano was the original program.....winning as they moved up and still winning after opening two new schools.

It looks to me like MOJO has been right there with Plano every step of the way.

I completely see where you are coming from. MOJO still gets mentioned because of the whole Friday Night Lights mystique. I just found it interesting you included them along side Celina and Carroll. It is clear that as far as championships go with the exception of Celina's in 74 that both Carroll and Celina are relative newcomers. with all of their titles coming within the last 20 years.

Plano was a non-factor throughout the late 1990's, up until they re-merged with a 13-1 record two years ago. Plano East really took up the banner after 1994 for the two plano schools.

PHS had fallen to 0-10 and 4-6 before Gerald Brence caguht fire again. Plano may have been the biggest school in texas for a long time (although i don't know if they still are) but because they only have juniors and seniors at the school continuity has become more of a problem with Plano East and West now open.

Where Plano succeeded was in winning at every level, in part helped by being the only high school in a town that grew from 2,000 to 200,000 in forty years. It took great coaching to continue that tradition, but it remains to be seen if plano can continue this recent resurgence, or fade back into obscurity with other powers of the past

kinda makes me wonder how the heck katy continues to roll...and the other 4-5 high schools in the kisd don't fare so well.........plano was for years limited to only playing jr and sr's...the addition of underclassmen just happen recently...............and kep your right mojo shouldn't have been mentioned with the others..............

I think it's interesting how pretty much every single program in the top 11 made all of their appearances in relatively compact periods of time.

Time between 1st and last appearance:

34 years: Cuero, Abilene, Wichita Falls
33 years: Celina
30 years: Odessa Permian
29 years: Plano
26 years: Old Waco High
24 years: Converse Judson
21 years: Brownwood
20 years: La Marque
18 years: Southlake Carroll

After that you start seeing huge gaps of time between the first and last appearances:

63 years: Highland Park
52 years: Temple
48 years: Katy
46 years: PN-G

I think Katy High School is an island of it's own even with KISD growth. The program is still run as if it were the only school in the district as it was when 3a back in the 70's. Tradition, tradition, tradtion. KHS remains unlike the other KISD "suburb" schools and produces year in and year out.

i've known a couple of katy fans for a long time (including the owner of 5ATF.com)

They NEVER get talked about in the conversation, but they have been in 7 title games themselves since 1994

only Celina, Converse Judson, LaMarque and Southlake Carroll can compare with that, and that's pretty good company (4 of the top 10)

Abilene, Celina, Judson, Brownwood, La Marque, and Carroll one or two coaches come to mind.

WOS if you have it easily accessible could you give us the head coaches for the top 11 during their time frame listed?

You already provided Cuero's in another thread.

If you don't have it don't go to the trouble of getting it!

No offense to anyone from Christoval, but as a Denison fan seeing Christoval's place on the list makes me feel better.
