Do you think "Sympathy for the Devil" is too much for a football highlight dvd? For any of you not familiar, lyrics are below.

Please allow me to introduce myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long long year stolen many man's soul and faith
I was around when Jesus Christ had His moment of doubt and pain
Made damn sure that Pilate washed his hands and sealed His fate
Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game

Stuck around St. Petersburg when I saw it was a time for a change
Killed the Tzar and his ministers, Anastasia screamed in vain
I rode a tank held a gen'rals rank when the blitzkrieg
raged and the bodies stank
Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name. Oh yeah
Ah what's puzzling you is the nature of my game. Oh yeah

I watched the glee while your kings and queens fought for
ten decades for the Gods they made
I shouted out "Who killed the Kennedy's?" when after all
it was you and me
Let me please intruduce myself I'm a man of wealth and taste
And I lay traps for troubadors who get killed before they reach Bombay
Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name. Oh yeah
But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game. Oh yeah
Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game

Just as every cop is a criminal and all the sinners, Saints
as heads is tails, just call me Lucifer 'cause I'm in need
of some restraint
So if you meet me, have some courtesy have some sympathy
and some taste
Use all your well learned politesse or I'll lay your soul to waste
Pleased to meet you hope you guess my name
But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game

The lyrics really don't match football highlights. Jagger defended his lyrics by saying his point was that man always blamed the devil for the atrocities throughout history "when after all, it was you and me."
Anyway, it's a lot tamer than most stuff played today on rock stations.

I like the song. I have a hard time seeing the connection though.
If I was going to make a highlight DVD it would be to Pantera's
"walk".

Ah, Pantera :inlove:

DEB: IMHO, if you could some how only use this part of the song, then I think it would "fit" LH football.

Seeee....that and the first line are the parts we were thinking of. My husband was adding spotlight effects and a LOT of the plays it's like my son is "introducing" himself to the defensive players.

Anyone have other suggestions?

I've always liked Nazareth's "Hair of the Dog." It even utilizes the cowbell!

Several people have remade it, including Guns N' Roses, but I still like Nazareth's version the best.

Regarding Nazareth's "Hair of the Dog," if the lyrics are too edgy, Chris Classic did a remix of it titled "Unleashed" that takes out the SOB. It was used in the Dodge commercials a couple of years ago. You can buy it on iTunes.

It's got a similar sound to the Magic Carpet Ride remix done by Philip Steir for the moive Go. That was also used by Dodge in a commercial and later by Chevy. That one's not available on iTunes. Here's the album on Amazon: Go: Music From The Motion Picture (http://www.amazon.com/Go-Motion-Picture-Various-Artists/dp/B00000ICMO) You can listen to a portion of the track.

I kind of like the remixed classic rock songs...

I made one of defensive highlights using Drowning Pool's "Let the bodies hit the floor"
Here's the song...better than coffee!!

I always thought Cliffs of Dover by Eric Johnson would make an awesome highlight soundtrack. Probably more for a running back but still an awesome song. Also, there are no lyrics to worry about. It also builds throughout the song which is conducive to better and better plays.

Bodies by Drowning Pool would be a good one too.

Joe Satriani has some good songs for highlight tapes, too, and like Johnson, there's no singing. The most important thing when selecting songs for highlight tapes is the music. Put your clips together and then watch them with the song playing. Do they look good together? A lot of people don't pay attention to the words when they're watching highlights, so there's not really a need to place an emphasis on lyrics. If you can find songs that sound good to the clips and have meaningful lyrics, great. But I don't think it's a necessity. Go to college or pro games and they'll have a highlight compilation to a rap song with every third word edited out, but the highlights still look good to the music. What's Happnin' by the Ying Yang Twins is good...just make sure you get the edited version.

 That might work too.

Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely look into some of the non-lyrical ones.
