Spense(sp?) Lackey was Abilene High's QB and this list has him
as a WR. Is that what they signed him as...a WR?

Signees. A fair amount of kids that sign with D2 schools end up going elsewhere, filling out the JV team or deciding not to play after a year. Midwestern State signed 45 kids yesterday.

I coached the older brother of the first kid on that list. Deuce was his name, and he had a lot of talent.

Why did WT-A&M sign such a large class?

Bigalow was intimidating. Before our our against them, he was telling our team he was a cannibal. Actually it was pretty funny ... but a little scary.

He always signs a big class, most of them offered around 250.00 per semester.
About 3/4 of them will redshirt

"Grantships" huh Yes many of these qualified for a lot of grant and aide. The schools throws em a little to make up the difference. Common practice. Bring in a ton of kids at low cost. See who makes it. Maybe give em a little more. Very few get full rides if any. Its a way to maximize the money you have and make it up with grant and aide. The actual numbers of kids staying, finishing, playing are actually pretty low. Its like cochroaches breeding. You make a lot so some survive. Its not an uncommon practice. Most eveyone does it. But people get the misconception that these are athletic scholarships. I guess for the 200 bucks you get "technically" its an athletic scholarship. But its really grant and aide. Actually the kid could go to school at these places under the same grant and aide programs and not play college ball. Its very misleading to the public. But best of luck. Your in college.
