I want to give a special congratulations to John Miller for making 1st team All-State. You hear a lot about our backs and defenders, but our O-linemen are often the unsung heroes. You won't find many guards that run a leg on your 800 and mile relays. John always wanted to be a runningback, and probably could have played fullback at many schools, but he's been an integral part of our success playing guard these last three years. Besides, two state championships and a 1st team all-state selection isn't a bad consolation.

Interesting, however it seems they like to reward seniors more on this list than the other one. Chris Whaley at third team RB and Dexter Pratt not even making the list? Brandall Jackson and his 700 yards and 20 ypc average not seen? Yikes! Sure I am a homer and all, but three division one guys right there that still put up good per-touch numbers even if the total yardage was less than jaw-dropping, what with Chris's almost 8 ypc average on 30+ carries per game, and Dexter's 9 ypc average on >20 carries per game? Dang you Dexter for having a calf injury for two weeks keeping you from 2500+ yards, dang you!

Seriously though, seniors do deserve that recognition, and every player on that list is worthy of the honor TSWA has bestowed on them. I know it is hard to cut some of the players that they have to to finalize the lists, and towns will always feel like their kid was left out of a position he deserves, but life goes on and they get their paid education and athletic experience they worked so hard for, and it is all good in the end! Congratulations to every player that was recognized, and congratulations to the towns that supported them through cheering, donating money and time, or posting their praises on the downlow!:D

Congrats to James Delgado, but no Nolan Nunez wow. Never mind I forgot this was the sports writers; we only have one in our area that gets to vote.

What a joke. WO-S has one of the top 2 Defenses in the State and not 1 on the first team.

Perhaps they are great as a unit and thus didn't have the standout players. Sometimes great players don't stand out as much when all of the guys around them can make plays, too.

This is a bit off-topic, but how many players did Abilene Wylie have on some academic all-state team recently released?

It was an amazing number, as I recall.

One of the better list I've seen except for Whaley being third team.

Sounds like he needed to get more carries.

He's a receiver. Sorry for the confusion. The only "drop" he had this year would have sent the Giddings game to overtime in all likely hood, since it was a trip-over-his-own-two-feet kind of drop in the endzone.

Congrats to the Vernon All State players. Especially to Tyler Methvin for a 1st team selection. Tyler took my daughter to the Prom last year. He is a great guy and I hope that he will play on Saturday's...look at HSU in Abilene, a class program with a winning tradition.

Also props go out to Darrien Williams who had a heck of a year in our secondary, but even more impressive as a QB. He really made the difference in several games on the offensive side of the ball.

I was told that Todd Dodge was at a Vernon off season practice -- Williams is a UNT commit so just bringing in these coaches may expose them to another player. I can't wait to watch this young man on Saturdays as well.

Great job to all you Lions.

I hope we get some representation at the Oil and Greenbelt Bowls.

I also saw Trevor Sparks from Graham. Wow this kid was a tackling machine. Great selection.
