I heard this on the radio the other day. Apparently these kids were racing a BMW down an airport runway. The runway ended and makes like an 85 foot drop. They were going so fast that they went 200 ft in the air and hit a tree, cutting the car in half. 3 were ejected, and all 5 were killed. It dislodged the engine from the car completely. Click on the video link at the bottom of the article and you can see the car. Unbelieveable.

OMG!! That is terrible!! The video clip says it was a 2008 BMW M5 and from all the comments on there, evidently the driver was 18 y/o boy.

no one did any research to see what was at the end of the runway? Too bad the parents weren't smart enough to know their kid was too stupid to be driving.

I can't imagine giving my 18 y/o kid (with a horrendous driving record, at that) a car that fast and powerful!!

I guess if he can afford that he probably has money for a good lawyer too....he's probably gonna need it!

Ahhhhhh, okay. Thanks for that. Doesn't make their death any less tragic, but it answers the "why were they out that late" question.

MANY years ago I was in the air force and stationed in Tucson AZ. This was, among other things, a U2 spy plane base. I always thought the best job I had ever seen was there. Seems the U2 wings were so long and flexible they could strike the ground on landing. To avoid the problem, the USAF had an SS396 Chevy truck manned by two enlisted guys, one the driver and the other harnessed upright in the bed of the truck. Their job was to race down the runway, catch the wings and place a small "skate" on the end of the wing. Worked like a charm. That driver must have had a ball!

That is so sad. My prayers to all the family and friends left behind. Mistakes are sometimes very costly.
