I accidently posted this in a thread but the other night Don Nelson had his players foul someone on purpose in the third quarter of the game! He used players that had fouls to give on a player that he knew wasn't a good free throw player. Even though what he did was legal and maybe he was right but it does take away from the spirit of the game plus slow it down.
His players did that about six or seven times. I think if a coach has his team do that and it is so obvious that the NBA needs to have the officials warn the coach that it shouldn't be done and that if it is that a technical will be called on the bench. This would stop this type of thing. Anyway any ideas? Of course in the last three minutes this rule would not be applicable.

Hack-A-Boone was fun to watch. Not as fun as the Hack-A-Shaq strategy Nelson popularized around the league several years ago, but it's fun watching guys go to the line and fail repeatedly at something so simple.

Remember the 'Hack-a-Shaq'?

Numerous coaches around the league used to do that.

:D

Wasn't Nelson the first to do that?

Nelson was first, then Dunleavy used it in the Western Finals in 2000 with Portland and continually fouled Shaq intentionally even when he didn't have the ball. That series helped lead to the rules changing. Teams would foul Shaq in his heyday until the final two minutes of the game when you couldn't use Hack-A-Shaq and foul him or anyone else intentionally off the ball.
