looks like they will have to forefeit their 2006 championship due to an ineligible player...

the head coach and principal (during that season) are under investigation by the UIL and DISD....

Report: South Oak Cliff must forfeit basketball title
DISD finds ineligible player used during 2006 run to state

The South Oak Cliff boys basketball team will have to forfeit its 2006 state championship, according to a WFAA-TV (Channel 8) report late Tuesday.

Two months ago, WFAA reported SOC player Kendrake Johnigan was academically ineligible during the team's run to the Class 4A state championship in the 2005-06 season. WFAA reported Tuesday that the Dallas ISD's office of professional responsibility has concluded its investigation and found the original story to be accurate.

Calls to DISD athletic director Jeff Johnson and DISD spokesperson Jon Dahlander were not returned.

South Oak Cliff coach James Mays II said he got word of the story Tuesday night following his team's district game against A. Maceo Smith.

Mays said he is declining to comment until he has met with representatives from the DISD administration.

SOC will be forced to forfeit the state title for violating the University Interscholastic League's "No Pass, No Play" rule.

So who is the champion now? I feel for the other players on the team. What a bummer!

this is where the forfiet sucks... Angleton clearly gave SOC the better game in the Semi finals... probably one of the best high school games I have ever been at... they deserve the championship more than Dunbar...

Dunbars only thing here is they had the better draw since it was very evident that the best 2 4a teams there were SOC and Angleton

It only takes it out of the record books. Both teams know who still won and lost.

Same thing happened in 88 when Carter was forced to vacate title..The team that gave them the best game was MArshall in the Quarterfinals, but IF they would have accepted Judson would have been ruled the Champs, but they would not accept it

I heard that three time defending 4A state champs S.O.C. had their middle title stripped due to grade altering to keep players elligible.

Makes you wonder about the bookend titles in 2005 & 2007......

my basketball team did that for one game a few years ago when they were helping me clean out a closet and they found some uni's from the 1970's... difference being that they wore them in practice and swore to wear them in a game but they backed out on the shorts but wore the shirts all year...
