If you don't mind hanging out on a riding mower for a couple of hours during the weekend (which I don't mind at all), just get a lawn tractor with a big cut and high horse (22 HP+) motor. It'll go fast and cut more, would be just fine for now.

Either that, or you could always stop by your local small-town lawn mower repair shop and look for a used ZTR.

Like I said, I'd just get the biggest and fastest one I could find within my budget. My dad bought one a little over a year ago and did just that. Found a great deal on a Troy-Bilt at Lowe's and has been happy with it so far.

I'm sure 3afan can inform you on what we bought last summer, I know it's not a zero turn. We can get our backyard done pretty fast and it's big. Most of the time is used going 1 mph because of canyons in the clay

I worked in a small engine/lawnmower repair shop for 4 years in high school and i have seen every type and model. I will tell you one thing, if you can, I would stick with a single cylinder engine, I would stay away from a V-twin, reason being, when they break it is a pain in the A$$ to fix and it will cost you a lot more. they tend to have a lot more problems, I would say go find you a john deer. if you buy one from a john deer store, i know for a fact it will come with all the warranties and you can even set up a service plan where they will come to your house and pick it up and service it and bring it back. if you buy one from lowes or home depot i dont know if they have that service plan. I would stay away from anything with a tecumseh engine personally, I saw a lot more of those then briggs and strattons. and if you do the regular maintanence like changing the filter and changing the oil and plug regurlarly and drain the gas when you arent going to use it you shouldnt have any problems with it.

Make sure to get one with the speed as a pedal, makes it alot easier to control then just setting the speed with a handle and having to push the break to control speed.

consider a Husqvarna - I got mine from Lowes - bro-in-law has one - we both love them .... its got auto-trans, cruise control, a high back (yes!), and a welded steel frame (important around here), and some nice to haves

HERE IS ONE (http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=288824-63311-960450009&lpage=none)

Make sure that whatever you buy has three blades. Better cut and a whole lot easier on the engine.

I had a 3 blader once ... i believe if your HP is enuf then 2 are just as good as 3 ... also maintenance cost will be less with 2 ... also guess it depends on what you are cutting

I like that idea...we live on 4 acres and just bought a zero turn radius Gravely....expensive! I can't drive it, but I am kind of enjoying that. I tried one time, didn't do so well, and before I made two passes, my husband was there to take over. :D

I think it was just because the mower was new!
