What a bargain Penn State has with Coach Joe Paterno!

His salary is $512,000 a year which isn't bad at all but not that high compared to most college coaches. A bargain indeed for Penn State. I think he was once offered $1M a year in 1973 to coach the Patriots plus bonus and 8 percent interest in the team. Man if he had took it that 8 percent no doublt would be millions of dollars today. Whew! But he loved Penn State and the area and chose to live there.

That $512k is just his base salary. He makes about $1.5 million per year after tv and radio contracts, endorsements, etc.

By comparison, Mike Leach has a base salary of $300k but will make between 1.8 and 2.1 million the next few years.
