Since we seem to be in the mode of hypothetical coach-firing decisions, some old-timers might remember this guy

Then you would make the perfect Aggie, because that's exactly what happened at Texas A&M in 1978

Poor Emory Bellard...I know an Aggie who was there with Coach Bellard the first day that he put the wishbone offense in at UT. He has some great stories from that era of football about Bellard and several other coaches from that time.

seems he had turned the team around somewhat...I don't think I'd of been so quick to run him off, but I can't really say...maybe the 8-4 after the 10-2 season was due to lack of upper classmen?

The '78 team got off to a 4-0 start and was ranked in the top 10 when they dropped 2 games to UH and Baylor. After that, some "influental alumni" began calling for his head and he said "that's it, I'm gone".

I think one of those 10-2 they were 10-0 and ranked number one in the nation...........had beaten texas already and ended the season with arkansas.....which turned into a blowout loss......and blew a shot at the national championship..........if i remember right they also had gone to penn state and beaten them.
