Reports say SMU is prepared to offer June Jones $1.5 to $1.7 million to come to SMU. Going from a BCS Bowl to lowly SMU...Between Brennan sacks/fumbles/interceptions during the game last night, the analysts mentioned Hawaii has a $50,000 recruting budget.

$50,000?

That's the equivelant of one and a half years from one student at SMU...

Yeah, no joke. They also said Jones hasn't been to the mainland on a recruiting trip in over 3 years. Hawaii picked up one of their wide receivers after watching him play a 7 on 7 pick up game at a juvenile detention center.

They also said Hawaii has some of the worst facilities in the
nation. They talked about how the BCS money was really
going to help the cause.

Note to Hawaii: If you ever want to see another BCS game
after yesterday, you better beat an opponent from 3 or 4 BCS
conferences during your non conference schedule.

I don't think so...they should schedule as many powder-puff Div I games that they can, because the computers won't care about past BCS history.

I don't see the AP and coaches poll ever having them that high again. I don't think the computers ever had them top 10

They were an at-large bid. They felt obligated to put them in
a BCS bowl simply because they were undefeated. Where
they are ranked in the polls has some effect on where the
computers rank them. The voters in those polls aren't going to
give them much credit if they continue to go undefeated
against mediocre teams and get blown out by teams that are
the real deal in bowl games.

Even so...they won't move into the Top 4 which would guarantee them a spot. Even if they went undefeated and landed in the Top 12 on a consistent basis...they can be passed over for another team in the at-large selections. Boise's win last year gave Hawaii a chance this year. Don't look for them to get another one in the near future...

Michigan chose to open at home with a FCS team (which I am sure they thought was a cream puff opponent) and got beat. So went the rest of the chaos to the college football season with that decsion.

Martz or Jones to SMU? (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3177298)

"SMU may have a backup strategy, however. ESPN.com's John Clayton reports that the school has contacted Mike Martz, who was fired as offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions on Wednesday"

I like Martz...he's crazy and might bring some life into a run down program.
