On New Years Eve hispanics do the tradition of eating menudo and fried tortilla mixed with sugar and cinnamon. Just wondering how many of u hispanics do that tradition. We've been doing that since i was little with my mom and my grandma when she was alive. And still keep the tradition going ever since. Also my grandma used to make some kind of hot chocolate that was really good. But forgot how it's made

Whenever I travel south, I always make it a point to go to H-E-B to shop for Mexican food. They have a lot better selection than we get this far north.

Last time I did this, I stopped at the one in Bellmead near I-35. Menudo was on sale for $1 per huge can and I bought about 10 of them. It's the first time I'd ever tried it and it was actually pretty tasty. But I wouldn't pay more than $1 for it. Ironically I was at a UIL eligibility hearing that day. That's why I had traveled to Waco.

I can't stand menudo. How can anything be good when it
has hominy in it?

Nope. I can sop that up with a tortilla. :D

I just can't eat menudo if it has hominy in it. Blah and gag.

Weird. I'm the opposite. I'll eat the hominy and get rid of the yucky meat.

I wish I was chinese. That would mean I'd be smart and live to
be 110 years old...wouldn't it?

Actually
Cabrito=Goat meat!

And it's excellent when done right.
Preferably for several hours in an underground pit.

And the best part of menudo is the hominy imo.

For those of you that dont know, the meat in menudo is "tripe".
Tripe is the lining inside a cow's esophagus.

YUM YUM!!! Arent yall hungry now?:D

Has anyone ever eaten chorizo?

Probably the first time I ever went to H-E-B (I sound like I'm the company spokesman) was when I had just moved to Austin and was a student at UT.

I was wandering the meat section and decided to buy a package of chorizo.

After having already eaten quite a bit of it, I read the ingredients. I don't remember if I actually threw up on the spot, but I never bought any more of it.

Nothing better than a little chorizo mixed with scrambled eggs. A little goes a long way though.

Red,

Have you ever tried the green chile hominy that they serve at Perinis in Buffalo Gap? I don't like hominy either, but that stuff is good.:)
