I will be there on Friday and Saturday :D
Friday night I should have a Game Preview with player and coach comments from both teams including Van's Jermie Calhoun and a few others from across the nation .. Landry Jones and Blake Cantu included..

I will also be covering the game for PrepNation.com, which publishes the National Prep Poll provided by the AP and a few other outlets. Plus it will get some mention in a future project of mine.

John McKisik is the Red team coach or one of them. He is a legend. Has won 556 High School games and 10 state Championships in South Carolina.

I used to live not far from Summerville and John year in and year out develops players to go on to the next level.

Many are playing in the pros today.

This Article is afew years old and his wins are greater now, but he is still winning.

This legend isn't retiring sort
By Ray Glier, special for USA TODAY
John McKissick has enough wins (510) and state titles (10) for two careers. His trophies and awards spill out of the case. But as McKissick starts his 53rd season as head football coach at Summerville (S.C.) High School, it's not to stockpile more wins.
Summerville (S.C.) High football coach John McKissick looks to add to his total of 510 victories, which is the most by any high school coach.
By Mic Smith, The Post and Courier via AP

"I don't know what else I would do," he says. "And I look forward to it every afternoon."

McKissick, who has more wins than any high school football coach in the nation, turns 78 in September and simply can't find a good reason to retire to his beach house. (Related item: Winningest coaches state-by-state)

Why should he go? His memory is sharp, and his competitiveness keen.

"The last time we didn't have a starter back on offense was 1957," says McKissick, who has been the coach at Summerville since 1952. "It was one of only two losing seasons we've had."

And the competitive attitude?

The last game of the 2003 season was a loss in the state playoffs. He is still a little downcast his team (13-1) didn't finish its perfect season.

"We were up 13-0 going into the fourth quarter," McKissick says. "Two touchdowns were called back. We lost to a good team, but it was a disappointing loss."

McKissick started his career in Summerville as a 25-year-old rookie coach when Harry Truman was president. Some have urged him to consider retirement, but he keeps resisting.

"You never know what's going on inside (your body), but as long as the administration feels I'm doing a good job and they are getting their dollar's worth, I'll do it," McKissick says.

McKissick has been around long enough that he has two players on this year's team that are the grandsons of former players. There are many other players on the roster — he's not sure exactly how many — whose fathers played for McKissick.

This preseason, the Green Wave have been ranked No. 2 in the state among 4A schools. But McKissick says reputation is responsible for the high ranking. When you have won as much as Summerville, there are expectations, even in a rebuilding year.

"We lost our offensive line and our quarterback is injured," McKissick says. "There's not a starter back on offense. We're not the second-best team in the state right now. I've been telling our players, the ranking is based on tradition. I think we're overrated."

Senior quarterback Matt Vaughn, who would have been the lone returning starter, underwent elbow surgery by orthopedic surgeon James Andrews last spring. Vaughn will be out at least until the middle of the season.

While the offense retools, the defense returns seven starters and should be the strength of the team.

Cornerback Tillman Millhouse and defensive tackle Lenard Mayazk are Division I-A quality, but the linebackers are inexperienced. But even with holes to fill, it is hard to imagine a coach with two losing seasons (1957, 2001) in 52 years turning out anything but a winner.

"He still has it. He's still a good coach, a respected coach here in the Low County," says Nelson Huggins, the head coach at North Charleston High. "He's a real person, too, and a humble man. You wouldn't know from talking to him that he has all those wins.

"It's never OK to be beat, but you look at what that community has done in football and what Coach McKissick has done with that program, and that's what you strive for. They are a measuring stick."
