Before the game they mentioned that Nance was starting and that he and Benson were the only two Texas high school running backs to run for 3,000+ yards in one season. This of course isn't true, but does anyone know what qualifiers might put the two in a category of their own?

How many 5A backs have done it? I saw one of the backs who did it, Thomas Tarver, back in 1998. He played for Brookshire-Royal and they were 2A at the time he did it.

5A was my first thought, but McGuffie did it last year.

Well how about the only backs to run for 3000 yards at the 5A level who also won a state title the same season. Let's give that one a try. :)

ET won state Nance's sophomore year and he didn't go for 3,000 then.

His bio on the ASU site has the 5A qualifier to the statement, so I guess now Benson, Nance, and McGuffie may be the only 5A backs to surpass 3,000 yards in a single season.

I know that's a lot of yards, but it seems like some others would have done it.

True! I'll blame my bad headache for how I came up with that! ET won in 05 and 07. Nance graduated in 06. So I really don't know how I came up with that. It must be my headache!

Sam McGuffie is the only white 5a texas high school football runningback to rush for over 300 yards.

There you have it a category of their own. :p

I was thinking about Jerrod Douglas of Converse Judson, whom I used to cover while working for the old KMOL-TV in SA...

But I believe the most he had was 2,500+ yards in a season..

But man..that kid could F--L---Y...You talk about kids that "kick it into gear," JD had 2 gears like that! He was fun to watch!

And I heard that now he's trying to be a rap/singer...

wasn't there a kid who went to Clark who ran for 500 yards in a game?
