Texas is getting to the QB WAY too fast. Their running game was fairly solid. What baffles me is they had a pretty good D all year, which is non-existant tonight. I really thought ASU would pick UT's secondary apart, but w/ the pressure UT is bringing Carpenter hasnt had the time.

Texas = playing a great game
ASU = just not clicking like I've seen them do most of the year.

I saw ASU twice before tonight and was not too impressed.

Nance is supposed to be their 3rd best back. He seemed to come in near the goal line the other games I saw.

I don't think Texas needs to worry about the running game too much.

I don't think Texas needs to worry about the running game too much. ASU's running game was decent, but did most of their damage through the air. With the pressure Texas is getting on the QB he hasn't had much of a chance so far. If Texas can continue to disrupt the passing game this one will be a W for Texas. :(

This looks just about like the ASU team I saw play USC. They're not all that fast at the skill positions (or on defense for that matter) and they're overmatched on the lines.

IT does not matter if he touched the ball or not (I think he did), the fact all those fools were on the field when ball was live is a foul in itself. UT got what it deserved after that little deal, a TD by ASU

ASU deserved a TD because the coaches were on the field? Then why isn't the penalty after a sideline warning a TD?

The score would indicate that UT is playing a great game which I guess they are but they sure are playing sloppy. They've underachieved all year so if they don't start cleaning it up they may let ASU back in it

The sideline warningf is NOT for when they are on the field. That is for when they are in the white area. Being on the field is a different rule ANd being on the field and interfering with the ball is a foul that lets the referee award ANY PENALTY HE DEEMS EQUITABLE It is in the rule

In this particular play I would not award a TD but I would have penalized as they did and made it that much easier for ASU to get it "on their own" thereafter

2000 3a playoffs, Breck v. Lamesa in Sweetwater, State Quarterfinals.

Lamesa was stomping us and their LB or CB caught a pick-6, but got tackled on the other 40 by a guy from our sideline. He was ejected and a 15 yd penalty from the spot of the foul. Still embarrassed that happened in a game we were involved in.

The ref must have not been in position to see the ASU guy fall on it, because if they dont see it initially, it goes to the guy on it in the pile. That's why you gotta throw'em off as soon as you can: protect your man.

well...having the title "assistant head coach" has a purpose. You make decisions in the absence of the head coach at practice and at games. But when you split coordinator titles, I just dont see how it works. You better have identical philosophies to make it work

Maybe it's the next "logical" step. Just as Parcells had running game and passing game coordinators, defenses can have run defense and pass defense coordinators. As far as play calling though is a difficult issue on defense. I guess coaches are trying to become further specialized in each aspect of the game.

Anyone that says the ball was touched by the ball boy either (A) had better camera angles than the rest of the nation or (B) is seeing what they want to see. There is no way that there was indisputable evidence to overturn the call on the field. It's plays like this that make me want to get rid of instant replay...even though they get it right more often than not.

And I on the other hand have yet to see anything that would convince me he did.

I would love to see more angles and you would think there would be enough cameras at the games that they should have multiple angles following the ball!

Texas OL has 3 Sophs, 1 Jr and a freshman. I knew they were young but not that young. Could be good for a while baring injuries like this year.

I don't know for sure if he touched it or not. And that's not even the point anyway.

But why did he (Chris Jessie) feel the need to go 3 yds. out onto the field (& other staffers were on field too) while the play is going on? Because he's Mack's stepson? Guy had no business being on field.

Like VAMike said, Texas was at fault either way & deserved a penalty. How many sideline warnings did Texas get on the night? At least 2, maybe 3.

Congrats to Texas, good for the Big 12 & state. Texas has a much tougher schedule next year (Kansas, Mizzou, etc.). I hate the Pac 10. Hope Big 12 does well in bowl games.

They had one early in the game and one in the 4th I think. If there had been 3 then there would have been a penalty mark off. They could have easily had 3 the way they were pinching to the sideline all night.

Great Fairfield broadcaster John Taylor said it best this year when a sideline warning was called on the first play of the game. "Ref wanted to get involved in the game early"

VAMike
12-28-2007, 01:22 PM
I don't know about that but there is NOTHING wrong with sending the message on the sidelines early and often. The San Antonio lawsuit coupled with last night's fiasco should be enough, one would think, to get teams to regain control over their sidelines.

I was surprised at the inability of ASU to tackle anyone. And the young OL played well. I thought ASU would win a close one. I do think the dumb QB from ASU shooting his mouth off did not help ASU. The Texas D played a lot better. But giving up 34 isnt good. I thought ASU played some D. Guess not. Charles ran well because of the OL.

Did anyone else notice how poorly the running back for ASU pass blocked? It was pathetic. He did not even try and looked like he was scared to death.

the wing/TE in the wing set running the tray blocked no one several times. He was supposed to block the LBer or number 2 past the center. Didnt touch a soul.

What did he say? I have't followed since the regular season ended.

The whole team had that mentality. I saw alot of upside down horns and taunting before the game, and even after being down 35-14 the WR caught that TD pass and stood over the corner and did the horns down.

No, but just stating the obvious concerning the staffers on field of play. No business being there.

And Texas does have a much tougher schedule next year.

And I gave Texas credit for a good win for the Big 12 & state.
