Former Student Killed At Championship Party

HOUSTON -- Dozens of people were questioned after a man was stabbed to death at a party celebrating Katy High School's championship, KPRC Local 2 reported Thursday.

The party, at a home in the 2000 block of Saddlehorn Trail, was full of former Katy High School students and current students.

But, investigators said, when some uninvited guests showed up, the violence began.

The party started with a bonfire for high school and college-age students to celebrate Katy's football state championship.

It ended when several young victims were stabbed.

Matthew Haltom, 20, was killed.

A Fort Bend County spokeswoman said deputies responded to a 911 call at about 1 a.m. Thursday.

When they arrived, approximately 60 people were at the scene.

Witnesses said the death and injuries occurred because a group of people decided to crash the party.

"A confrontation ensued, which resulted in a knife being pulled out, and several victims were stabbed. One actually died here at the scene, and two have been transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital," said Terriann Carlson with the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office.

Haltom lived at the home.

The conditions of the injured victims were not released.

Two people have been identified as "persons of interest," but no one is in custody, according to authorities.

Holy Crap. I thought this stuff only happened in Philadelphia and Ohio State.

That is terrible. Something that should have been a joy for everyone turned ugly.

They said tonight on Houston news TV channel that a 15-year-old was arrested but didn't give a lot of details
