If we were to determine one state champion for each classification these would be the matchups...who wins and why?

5A-Katy vs Trinity
4A- Lake Travis vs Lamar Consolidated
3A-lets not even hear about this one...we've heard enough lol
2A-Canadian vs Farmersville
1A-Monday vs Alto
6 man- Motley County vs Richland Springs

If we were to determine one state champion D1 vs D2 is not the way to do it!

I agree but IF we were to do it this year...this is what we would have to do

We could throw everybody into one bracket. Either way it's just speculation.

UIL should put all district champions in a bracket and make that the championship bracket. Put the two other teams in the consolation bracket.

this will just get ugly. i learned last night that if you pick against a team... then it is considered disrespectful so i am staying away from this one

the best way i've heard to keep 3 teams from each district in the playoffs is to have a basketball-style bracket (7 weeks, district champions get a bye)

that way, DC's are rewarded for their supremacy and there are no divisions, just a 96 team playoff

of course, that would require an extra week of games, which will probably never happen

my personal dream scenario is a return to the previous format:

2 teams from each district and one state champion

How is it fair for smaller schools to have to compete with larger which may have more talented players to choose from? I think D1 and D2 is just fine, you would have people whining if they changed it.

Dude, no it's not!

If you want one champion D1 versus D2 makes about as much sense as a high school BCS.

You simply put all the teams in one bracket. That may mean reducing the number of teams that qualify for the playoffs or lengthening the playoffs.

Dividing the teams into divisions only to have the winners play makes no sense!

I agree. As it is now everyone during district plays both DI and DII teams.

Usually the bigger schools are NOT the best.

Just for example in LH's district Taylor and Hutto are the two biggest schools and never got a smell and didn't qualify.

LH is the third largest school, and got shoved up into DI because the present UIL system did that. The School with the largest population that qualifies for the playoffs goes up to DI.

On the other side of the fence Celina is the smallest school in the district, and had an exceptional year. Frisco Wakeland is by far the largest school and had a great season qualified for the playoffs and was in DI only to loose.

The point is that both CElina and LH beat DI teams all the time, as do many others in all the districts.

So why separate them at all after the fact. Just play it with all the teams in one bracket and the winner is the one that is left un beaten at the end of the playoffs.

To me that makes sense, to the UIL it seems to make them more money to do it the way it is. It makes more schools coaches and players happy because they have bragging rights on State Championships. But in the end it is a diluted Championship.

Just my thoughts, and that is where my perspective comes from .
