View Full Version : Top 500 Programs of All-Time (2007)

This was originally put together for the 5A board but there's nothing specific to 5A about it. 3A is very well represented so I thought I'd post it over here for those interested.

Here's the update of the thread I put up after the end of the season last year...

link to thread ---> Original Top 500 Programs of All-Time Thread (http://www.5atexasfootball.com/forum/vB/showthread.php?t=18148)

It's gotten very tight up at the top and if Converse Judson wins this week they will leap in to 1st place. I gave the 12 finalists who are playing this week the 32 points that they are all guaranteed for making the finals. 6 of them will gain another 32 points after this weekend. Alto, Euless Trinity, Munday and Gilmer all moved in to the top 100, displacing Union Hill, Dallas Sunset, Greenville and Sudan.

Includes playoffs appearances in all 11-man UIL classifications from 1920 up through the 5th round of the 2007 playoffs with only the teams labeled in BLUE still having 1 game to play.

For those unfamiliar with the point system:
Each state title is worth 64 points
Each loss in the state finals is worth 32 points
Each loss in the semifinals is worth 16 points
Each loss in the quarterfinals is worth 8 points
Each loss in a round of 16 is worth 4 points
Each loss in a round of 32 is worth 2 points
Each loss in a round of 64 is worth 1 point

Unbelievable.

How do you find the time to compile all these stats??

You only show Sweetwater being in the finals 1 time. I think that should be 2. I think we had one against Nederland back in the 50s or 60s.

I believe you're reading it wrong.... the 1 in the finals column represents 1 Loss in a state finals (1957). The 1 in the Ch column represents the state championship from 1985.

The 4 in the S column is for the 4 losses in the Semis Sweetwater has had. But they've played in 6 semifinal games overall.

Oops. My original post was based on the 2005 season. As of the 2007 season

Rockdale 179 First game in 1958
Snyder 280 First game in 1930

Seems like Rockdale has done more in less years. Of course before 1975 and the modern age of football it doesnt count :D :D

Nope... they were 2A co-champs with Iowa Park in 1970 and won the 3A title outright in 1982.
They lost in the finals to Estacado in 1968 and again in 1987 to Lorena. Those are the only championship appearances I'm aware of for Refugio

The "unabridged" version of the rankings contains 1146 different schools which have qualified at least once for an 11-man UIL playoff tournament since 1920.

What do undefeated seasons before they had true state champions count as?

Have to add Class 2A East Bernard

They have 276 playoff appearances and almost 450 wins

For the lower classification playoffs prior to 1972 which did not play all the way to a state championship, losses in a Bi-district game are placed in the 64 column, Bi-district championships or losses in regional finals are counted in the 32 column and Regional championships are counted in the 16 column. I did it that way because in any given year there were usually somewhere between 12 and 20 Regional Champs, so on average the regional champ was in the top 16 in their classification.

Good to see my Sweeny Bulldogs checking in at #84 overall. That Semifinal loss in 1988 still haunts me & served as my last HS football game. We should have won that game, just gave it away to Navasota. Missed our shot at SLC.

Proud program & lots of good years.
