Texas Stadium gets too damned cold this time of year. But, that's probably where it will be.

From staff reports

AUSTIN — The China Spring Cougars are on their way to the Class 3A Division II state championship game.

China Spring, 14-1, will face 15-0 Celina, reportedly at Texas Stadium in Irving.

The Cougars romped to a 37-14 victory over the Cuero Gobblers in the state semifinal game at the Burger Center in Austin.

China Spring senior Jared Welch stormed into the end zone with two minutes left to increase the Cougars lead to 23 points. The Gobblers blocked the exta point.

With 3:19 left in the game, Cuero’s Kayron Johnson scooped up a fumble recovery and rambled 35 yards for a touchdown to cut into the Cougars lead, but it was too little, too late for the Gobblers

At start of the fourth quarter, the China Spring Cougars held a commanding 24-point lead over the Cuero Gobblers in the game at the Burger Center in Austin.

China Spring rolled to a lead to 31-7 over the Gobblers with 7:33 left in the third quarter on a 65-yard touchdown pass from Dustin Eskew to Cody Fuller.

James French tacked on the extra point for CSHS.

Two plays earlier, Cuero was driving and had completed a pass but the receiver fumbled the ball and an opportunistic Cougar defense pounced on the ball.
