Run defense has been the achilles heel for Hebron all season. All three teams (Cedar Hill and Marcus were the other two) that beat them this year could run the football. Hebron really overachieved this year because that run defense has been mediocre all season. They had so many young guys out there that had never played a varsity snap before this year. Abilene did exactly what you have to do to beat Hebron. Gotta hand it to them for following almost to a T the game plan that Marcus used against them a few weeks back.

Today though might be the last time Hebron loses a game for a long, long time. They're on the verge of getting ready to go on a Southlake type run with what they have coming up through the pipeline. They're going to be loaded with a lot of size on the lines, some really, really good QB's and more speed than they know what to do with for about the next 5 or 6 years. They've got one of, if not the best, head coach in 5A with Brian Brazil and if he can get this group to the state quarters, I can't wait to see what he does over the next few years. They won't be waiting long to add another championship to the trophy case.

I didn't say they're go undefeated for 4 straight years. They will, however, be the team to beat in the region for the better part of the next 5 to 6 years. They just made the regional final in their second season in 5A and there's no one in the metroplex that has the kind of talent coming through the next few years that they have.

Combine that talent with great coaching and you've got something special in the making up the road from me. It's just a matter of time before they have more state championships to put in the trophy case.

The biggest thing going for them besides all the talent coming up is that they don't plan to split the school up and put another high school in the area. They're going to let Hebron grow. They'll have somewhere around 3500 or so kids in that school within the next 4 or 5 years due to the housing development right around the school. Right now they're around 2500 or so.
