Your guess is as good as mine. How in the world could Palacios come out so flat to start the game? Did they not know who they were playing until they showed up to the stadium? :D

Hold your head high, Sharks. Except for Sept. 7th, this lady has been rooting for ya!!! It was a good run!

Hats off to the Palacios players and their fans... the fans stayed til the end and the players played hard until the end... left it all out on the field... congrats on a great year...

And of course Congrats Cuero... one heck of a game... way to play through the paint, Q... great job, guys...

And Kaeron... you shoulda gotten flagged on that first play lol... but it was good to see some swagger after that first tackle... I was on the Palacios side and their fans were all over you the whole game after that ha...

I'm hearing that the four teams may have agreed that the winners will play at Austin's Berger (SP?) Center? or something like that?

What I'm hearing, not really sure how much truth is in it...

Looks like Cuero fights their way through shark infested waters to possibly encounter pirates the following week, they should win that one to.

Go Gobblers.

Speaking of China Spring, I ran in to the head coaches wife in Austin yesterday, She was a nice lady, She said they are glad LH went DI this year;)

I will have to root for China Spring against WLV this week now. I forget what was their mascot?

Yes, that is right:
Burger Center is on Ben White
Nelson Field is next to Austin Reagan HS.

Good luck to Cuero and congrats to Palacios on a historic season. The entire community of Palacios should be commended.

I also want to say shame on those posters who were calling Palacios bad, did they bring their 7th grade team, and sorry that people wasted their time going to Victoria. At this time of the season, everyone should be congratulated no matter what happens in the gam.

Cuero defeats District 29-3A rival in quarterfinals

BY MIKE FORMAN - ADVOCATE SPORTS WRITER
December 08, 2007

Cuero’s second game against Palacios wasn’t much different than the first with the exception of what was on the line.

The Gobblers blitzed through the Palacios defense and stifled the Sharks’ offense for three quarters while claiming a 42-14 Class 3A, Division II quarterfinal playoff win before a near-capacity crowd on Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

Cuero defeated Palacios 51-20 in the District 29-3A opener in October and the Gobblers picked right up where they left off in the rematch, never punting and scoring on six of their nine possessions.

“We knew we had beaten them last time but we couldn’t underestimate them,” Cuero senior Quincey Whittington said. “We played hard and we were able to execute as a team. We had too many fans here to disappoint them.”

The Gobblers had 21 first downs and 372 total yards while improving to 12-2. Cuero advances to the semifinals for the third time in four years against the winner of today’s Waco LaVega-China Spring game.

“I thought our kids executed well and did well right off the bat,” Cuero coach Mark Reeve said. “We got a little sloppy in the fourth quarter but overall I thought we did a good job.”

The Gobblers took a 35-0 lead into the fourth quarter and were stopped only once by the Sharks (10-4), when they came up a yard short on a fourth-and-10 attempt from the Palacios 20 in the second quarter. The only other times Cuero didn’t score came at the end of the first half and the final possession of the game.

“The first time we played them it was a tough game,” Palacios senior linebacker Aaron Buckley said. “Cuero has a lot of athletes and it sort of messes up our defensive plan and our offensive plan. We did what we could do.”

Whittington carried only 17 times but had 160 yards and scored on runs of 7 and 26 yards. He also caught two passes for 25 yards and intercepted a pass to set up another Cuero touchdown.

“We were able to move the ball on offense,” Whittington said. “I also thought our defense did well.”

Cuero drove 66 yards on its first possession and scored on a 1-yard run by Jake Rangnow. The Gobblers went 66 yards the next time they had the ball and scored on a 38-yard pass from Tyler Arndt to Isaiah Glover.

“I thought we ran the ball well and played good defense,” said Reeve, whose team threw only 10 passes. “Our offensive line did a real good job.”

The Gobblers took a 21-0 lead when Whittington scored from 7 to complete a 62-yard drive and Jonathan Perez added his third extra point with 2:53 left in the second quarter.

Palacios missed a chance to get on the scoreboard when a 38-field goal attempt with 13 seconds remaining went wide left.

“They’re a good football team,”Palacios coach Mike Treybig said of the Gobblers. “I knew we were going to have to play our best game and they were going to have to make some mistakes for us to have a chance and they didn’t.”

Cuero drove 56 yards to open the third quarter and scored on a 3-yard run by Troy Ruiz and increased its lead to 35-0 on a 1-yard run by Rangnow, which came six plays after Whittington’s interception.

Palacios attempted to rally in the second half behind running back Henry Solis, who carried 24 times for 115 yards.

Solis scored on a 1-yard run on the first play of the fourth quarter to complete a 71-yard drive. After David Sandoval recovered the ensuing onside kick, the Sharks scored again on a 28-yard screen pass from David Hunt to Solis.

“That Solis is a heck of a back,”Reeve said. “You don’t have him until he’s on the ground.”

Cuero put the game out of reach when it recovered Palacios’s second onside kick and Whittington weaved through the Palacios defense to score from the 26 five plays later.

“Some of the stuff we ran against them the first time we played, they did a better job of defending,” Reeve said. “But we were still able to move the football.”

Yea I dont understand how cuero can not get any love. Cuero has more history than la vega ever could imagine yet coach shiply and rick renner or what ever their names are would rather talk about how good of year solis had. They must not know that cuero has a bad a$$ running back and a QB that has the highest passer rating in the state. Also Cuero is a great team Individual stats do not matter to this bunch they just play hard and as a team. Cuero should have gotten a little praise on tv I am a little dissapointed but I hope they dont get upset since Shiply was wrong about cuero and wimberly. I guess since Cuero is known to be good people just dont like us on top and are gunning to knock us off.
I will be real dissapoited if foxssw doesnt have a camera at next weeks game.
