Anybody have an ideal on the best defense in 3a and who are some of the best defensive players?

It's a little early to say for the coming season, but last season seemed to me that description belonged to Sinton and Everman.
Gotta be pretty good if you give up less than 10 points a game for an entire season.

Agreed that it is too early to say, however if we are going to discuss the 2001 season, La Grange must be included in the mix. They allowed only 35 points in 6 play-off games, including three shutout in a row. The Final, which they lost 14-11 to Commerce was a classic defensive battle, with Commerce winning on the big plays.

Yes sir, that is impressive too! What was their pf/pa total last season? Could look it up, but figured you'd know.

This year the best defense...who knows...we'll have a better answer for that in Week 5 or so...as for last year my top 5 defenses

1. Everman
2. LaGrange
3. Sinton
4. Forney
5. Giddings

I know this isnt 3a, but the best defense Ive ever seen in person was Mesquite's 2001 team. Ive never seen anything like it. Holes that you could drive a truck through would just disappear and pockets would just collapse around the QB. Of course, we all know about the '83 Daingerfield Tigers, arguably the best high school football team in Texas history, who allowed a total of 8 the entire season.

Atlatna will have a good one again. They have 8 startes back from last year so they should be pretty good.

Bellville has a good defense i think sinton and la grange know about that esp. la grange. Dornon the middle linebacker coming back with a couple of new ones around him but still should be very good. with an execlent secondary

Jacket, 8 points allowed for a whole season?
That's phenominal. I think that's the lowest I've ever heard of.

Did some quick math from the data poll site, and on a points per game status:
Atlanta......7.00......12 games
Lake Worth...7.36......11 games
Yoe..........7.45......11 games
Forney.......7.58......12 games
Bandera......8.00......12 games
Sinton.......8.13......15 games
Everman......8.20......15 games
Rio Hondo....9.30......10 games

I know this is based on just numbers, and doesn't reflect level of competition completely and other factors, but there were a couple of surprizes here for me.
(Rio Hondo and Lake Worth?)Interesting.

These were final averages computed from data poll's regional top 25's.

Last year's 2 best defenses had to be Sinton and Everman. Both had tons of SPEED.

I don't have a program handy but from recollection, (having attended all 16 games) they were 469-147 in 16 games. That's 9 points given up per game.

I guess we could make an argument that the FOUR best had to be Everman, Sinton, Commerce, and La Grange. After all, those WERE the championship games in each division.

LaGrange was by far the best defense I saw last season. Their whole defense was good, backside pursuit was incredible, but what really stood out when I saw them were their linebackers. Wow, those guys were hitters, especially Melnar.

Sinton's defense should be pretty good this year.linebacker should be the trouble spot,so if they can shore that area up they'll be REAL good.

I think that Barbers Hill defense deserves a little respect. It is a defense that only gave up a total of 15pts. in a regular season game led by Jared Dolan and Brian Cummings who both will return this season.

I believe the Barbers Hill defense will turn a lot of heads. It is loaded with speed and talent. It has some all state candidates and last year all 11 starters were all- district picks. With 5 of them back and some very talented new comers BH looks to throw a lot of shut outs. The projected starters speed consist of the following :(1)4.30, (5)4.5's, (3)4.6's, (1)4.8, and (1)4.9.
With speed like that it should be tough for opposing ball carriers to get too far away.
