I have been in Dallas on business all week. I have been checking the ARN website everyday. Not one story on the Wylie Bulldogs since Dec 1, 2007. You would never know that we are playing for a chance to play in the State Championship game. Is this how a paper supports its community.

Heck, the KTXS Sports Guy called our quarterback Will Casey will doing a report on us beating Burkburnett. Will Casey is the QB for Cooper.

SAD...Just SAD!

Good Luck to all the Big Country Teams.... even you to Snyder! LOL

They hardly make anything out of something that means everything to our community, see how many articles were written about the basketball state championship runner-up team last year, or the year we won state in football.

On the gofridaynight website they said Snyder was in the state championship in 2004. I already cant rely on the Sweetwater Reporter to update their website now even ARN is giving me false info. whats the world coming to

Ever since one of their sports writers left they havent been updating their sports as much...

They use to post everything sports related. Now it is just a shame...

There has to be some reason why they dont do a story at least twice a week on Big country teams in the playoffs. I mean give me a break how hard is it to drive to Wylie High School and ask a few questions.

For example I would love to know what teams do in practice this time of year. Do the hit, do the run, do they lift weights. Do they watch films.

I wonder if the reporters in this town ever look in the mirror and ask themselves... I wonder why I cant get a job in a bigger market? DUH!

They do, they just dont post them on the internet anymore. Sometimes I give my grandma a call to get the DL...

IDK, there might be. Most likely there will be one tomorrow though. They always have some kind of write up for Wylie. Prolly their main focus right now is A High. They did a piece of Cisco a couple days ago but they didnt post anything today.

Yeah, I wonder how many more stories they can do on Abilene High that barely beat SLC who was without their all world QB. Still they had to win on a 1 in-a-millon fumble inside the 10 yard line. Sure it is cool they beat SLC but come on they may have scored more points but they didnt beat SLC.

It shocked the hell out of me when I heard the news that they beat Carroll.

Wylie has got a stiff opponent ahead of them, I bet they will be doin some reporting on the game. lol.

Thankfully I will be at the game SAT. I love Birdville they seem to do an outstanding job. Even though it is in the Metro Plex I think our guys feel like it is a home game. The weather will be great so I expect a good crowd.

Check out the picture on the front page of the sports this morning (friday)..... Drew Seale????? he's not even in the picture. But, we just keep on buying the paper. Maybe we should all stop. I don't know how many times I've called the sports editor complaining. One year there were 22 athletes at the state track meet from Taylor County,(Jim Ned, AHS,CHS, and Wylie). Absolutely no coverage. Had to go to the internet just to get the results. It is totally unacceptable. I can't think of anything more important to a community than it's kids that are excelling. boy, let them get in some trouble, or make a bad decision and it will be all over the front page with headlines. You've got all the AHS kids playing at Tech, David Roach 3 yr starter at TCU, Keenum at Houston, Montgomery from Sweetwater 2 yr starter at TCU, just to name a few. You never hear anything about them. But, if you are interested in the Norwegian clothing optional coed badmitton team, there will probably be an AP wire article on it. And, thats all I have to say about that. I could go on and on. Chaps my hindquarters.

it is almost as if they are pandering to the surrounding communities and ignoring the home town schools. there are decent area team related articles each week but how many more papers do they sell a week in Abilene than they do in all those other schools. Sure i love hearing about Roscoe and some of the other schools but a capsule is fine. Give me lots of info on the big teams.

When there are stories in the repeaternews about all the local schools there are always so many errors and mistakes that are just ridiculous. Hard to take the staff serious. Thank goodness Trey Shockley doesnt cover the Bulldogs now. I detest his articles and writing style.

I remember in the mid-late 90's when they did a great job covering ALL local sports (thank you Bill Hart and Al Pickett). I have old papers where they did full write up's on little league all-stars, local tennis and golf tournaments, etc that often included photos. Heck I had a photo on the front of the paper (not just the sports section) one summer from the big statewide tennis tournament that took place in Abilene every July. It was a 3rd round match...but since I was from Abilene and doing pretty well...they wanted it covered in the paper. Sometime around 2000 or so...people from the small towns would started to complain about not getting any coverage. Now it seems that things have reversed. I guess they forget who buys the papers that keeps them going. And oh yeah...it's called the ABILENE Reporter-News. It's not the Taylor County News, or Big Country News...it's about Abilene. Remember who pays your bills!!!

Also, gofridaynight.com used to be a very informative site...now it's all but a joke. I used to use it on Friday's to check on Wylie games. Here's an excerpt from the Andrews game last week (the time to the right is when it was posting on their website...and even that's an hour off):

1st and 10. Kelton passes to the WR on the slant for a AHS touchdown. 20:34
2nd and 7. Kelton runs option right, keeps it and gets into Bulldog territory. 20:34
1st and 10. Kelton in shotgun, Kelton keeps it to the right for a gain of 3 to the 48 yrd line. 20:33
2nd down. Kelton at QB hands to Reed for a 1st down. 20:32
1st and 10. AHS runs the no huddle. The RB takes the handoff for a few up the middle. 20:32
1st and 10 for AHS. The QB looks to pass and complete for a 1st down. 20:31
WHS is set to kickoff and AHS returns the ball for a good return. 20:31

What the heck just happened up there??? From that writing I can tell the following:
- Wylie kicked off to Andrews
- Andrews got the ball across midfield
- Andrews scores a TD on the next play

Questions...Where did they start their drive? How many yards did each play go for? How long was the TD pass? Was it 49 yards? Was it 1 yard?

Sadly...it continued like that the entire game so I only checked periodically for scores so as not to throw Wu's phone across the casino!
