Everyone knows Crabtree is just a product of "the system"...

Sarcasm back off...

Congratulations to the former David W. Carter Cowboy on winning the Biletnikoff as a FRESHMAN!

Unless I looked at the list wrong, he should is the first freshman to win the award. Fitzgerald got it as a sophomore if I remember right.

A couple of months ago, I read an article that his dad was hoping/expecting he would enter the draft. I'll see if I can find it again.

Now you see him
Texas Tech wide receiver Mike Crabtree might leave for the NFL after his sophomore season, his father told The Dallas Morning News for a story that appeared Thursday.

That's provided he keeps up his stellar play.

"If he continues to do this in his first two years, I think he'll be out of there,'' the elder Crabtree, also named Michael, told the newspaper.

He cited risk of a major injury as a factor.

Tech coach Mike Leach has allowed only limited access to Crabtree since the season started. He's done postgame interviews three times but isn't made available during the week.

The NFL and NFL Players Association require a player to have been out of high school for three years to be draft eligible. That would be after the 2008 season in Crabtree's case.

The redshirt freshman has 70 receptions, 1,074 yards and 17 touchdowns in his first six games.

In brief
Tech ranked 10th nationally in a Graduation Success Rate study released by the NCAA this week for the period 1997-2000. Tech's 79-percent rate was third in the Big 12. ... Tech QB Graham Harrell on Thursday won the AT&T all-America player of the week award for the second time in three weeks. Harrell set a single-game school record for completion percentage (83.7) last week, hitting 36 of 43 for 425 yards against Iowa State. To win the award, based exclusively on fan voting, Harrell polled 41 percent and beat out Missouri QB Chase Daniel (39), Michigan RB Mike Hart (15) and Northwestern QB C.J. Bacher (5).

With a guy like Crabtree (talent wise not attitude or anything) he would probably enter the NFL after next year regardless. He is a great player and deserves the award. But as Adidas said im not buying him being in Lubbock after next year even if he does say that because they always say that but not many great ones actually stay

since he is a rs freshman, could he leave this year if he wanted to?

No...you have to be 3 years removed from your HS graduating class. So either a true junior or redshirt sophmore can leave.

Crabtree first AFCA freshman All-American since Herschel Walker

Associated Press - November 29, 2007

(AP) - Texas Tech receiver Michael Crabtree is the first freshman -- since Herschel Walker in 1980 -- to make the American Football Coaches Association All-American team.

Crabtree leads the nation with 125 catches for 1,861 yards and 21 touchdowns. He shattered the NCAA freshman record of 14 receiving TDs held by three players.

Crabtree set school records in all three categories for the Red Raiders, whose powerful passing game has kept their offense among the best in the nation since coach Mike Leach arrived in 2000.

Walker, who played at Georgia, is the only 3-time AFCA All-American. He made the team from 1980-82 and went on to play for the Dallas Cowboys.
