The Dallas Cowboys' 37-27 victory over the Green Bay Packers attracted an NFL Network record 10.1 million viewers across the country, almost doubling the previous high in the network's history of broadcasting games, which dates only to last season.

NFL Network's previous best was 5.4 million viewers for the 2006 Cowboys-Falcons game. The Cowboys-Packers meeting on Nov. 29 was the second game of NFL Network's eight-game package this season. The Colts-Falcons opener on Thanksgiving night scored 4.2 million viewers.

According to the latest Nielsen numbers, cable's NFL Network is available in 43 million homes, which is about 38 percent of the 112.8 million U.S. homes with televisions. The game was seen in 6.3 million homes.

While 10.1 million viewers is a big number for NFL Network, it pales in comparison with the most-viewed games on television this season. CBS' late Sunday afternoon game on Nov. 4, which featured the Patriots-Colts in most of the country, attracted 33.8 million viewers. Fox's top showing came a week later as 25.1 million viewers watched its late afternoon game, which was the Cowboys-Giants in most of the country.

NBC's most-watched Sunday night game, the Eagles-Patriots on Nov. 25, scored 21.8 million viewers. For ESPN's Monday Night Football, also on cable and available in 96.4 million homes, the season best is 14 million viewers for the Packers-Broncos on Oct. 29.

That's great, but they had better get some better commentators than Bryant "Lost in Space" Gumble and Chris "I hate the Cowboys" Collinsworth if they want to be successful long term.
