It will be only the second time in history that the NC was won by a team with a two loss record according to the existing major polls.

In 1960 Minnesota won it with an 8-2 record. However that year the major polls (AP and UPI) decided their NC based on the regular season in which Minnesota had an 8 - 1 record losing only to 4-4-1 Purdue 14-23. Minnesota was to lose to 10-1 Washington in the Rose Bowl for its' second loss by the score of 7 to 17.

Many experts felt that Mississippi should have got it because they were undefeated with only a tie on its' record agains LSU 6-6 plus they won their bowl game and had a 10-0-1 overall record. Mississippi was voted No. 1 by several "minor" polls. Back then the AP and UPI were partial to Notre Dame and/or the Big Ten but even based on the regular season record many ask "What were they thinking?"

Hopefully after the NC game this year many will be asking the BCS that question.
