Nah, we were underdogs in my mind. They were undefeated and ranked higher. We had a great year, but it genuinely was a rebuilding year. We'll have almost everyone back next year, plus a few superstar JV players. The next two or three years should be up there among our best in a long time, assuming I don't jinx us with this post ;)

Great job by both defenses! We gave LV too many chances with awesome field position. You can only shut them down in the red zone so many times.

LaVega's final TD was given up on purpose by WO-S (a la Green Bay vs. Denver in the SB). They wanted the ball back and were only down 8, which only changed that they needed a two point conversion. A field goal was not even an option when we miss extra points like we do.

Too little, too late. The better team won. Noone wanted to hear this week how La Vega was every bit as talented as WO-S. Now I guess they know. If not for that incredible defense this game could have easily a three TD margin.

Yep. But if not for that great offense, WO-S would have shut them out. ;) Our defense is our strength. Why would you take that away?

At the time, it wasn't too little or too late. A big play TD and two point conversion would have tied it.

Yes, LV was the better team, but not by much. Good luck, and I hope they win it all.

I still wont forget the game in the dome when we were down with close to a min left (people leavin the stadium, whcih annoys the h##l outta me) go to the line of scrimmage and throws a pass down the side line and it was the winning touchdown. Those people that left early didn't know what had happen. And i can promise you that WOS never over looks anyteam (besides 1 lol, not a 3a school), but neways good job Le vega and best of luck

whew i'm wiped out! :D once again the WOS play calling in the 2nd half was suspect. the defense played well, but were just worn down after being on the field about 18 minutes in the 2nd half! field position was a killer for WOS and then the diaster with fumbles and just jaw dropping, inexplicable play calling. hell, i'm not a resident of WOS, but if this is the norm and i saw some of it last week - i'd be a little peeved. :twitch:

Congrats to LaVega.

This game was a nailbiter, but the difference was WO-S had 22 yards and zero first downs in the second half. We've been a second half team all year, so much credit goes to LaVega for putting the clamps on us. I wish we would've been more aggressive with our playcalling in the second half. We've had a recent history of being too predictable with our playcalling (sitting on a lead while trying "not to lose") in the second half, but LaVega did what they had to.

Great year, Mustangs. We're proud of you. 11-2 is terrific for a "rebuilding" year. Next year most of our guys will be back. Already looking forward to it.

LaVega was the better team tonight. I wish them well the rest of the way.

Our offensive coordinator is a moron. We've been calling for his head for years - especially after Giddings last year. Unfortunately, every time we do, posters from other teams jump all over us for "blaming the coaches" and for being "bleacher coaches."
Our DC is one of the best in state, but you can only keep a wall up so long.

Good luck to La Vega the rest of the way, and congratulations to WOS on a great year.

I could have swore I read in the Orange Leader this week a quaote from Head coach Dan Hooks stating how he believes the OC, Coach Crouch, had done a fantastic job with the offense this year in particular. He gave him tons of credit after losing so many playmakers from last years team.

I think I'll take Coach Hooks word.

I got a full explanation from a teacher at LaVega. I'll pull it up later if I can find it in my email.

He's complimenting him in public like a coach is supposed to do. I do think you're embellishing a bit. Here's the quote:

“Offensively, Coach (Randy) Crouch has done an excellent job mixing things up,” Hooks said. “The kids have been really disciplined all season long, avoiding those nagging penalties and we haven’t coughed up the ball hardly at all. Turnovers made a big difference in the Giddings game, they had three and we had one. Plus, we were better on special teams. You can’t never forget that other phase of the game and we’ve been pretty good there all year too.”

Yes, he says he's done a good job of "mixing things up." I don't see any reference to losing playmakers, to "this year in particular," or "tons of credit."

Our OC is very up and down. There are times he'll call a game sensibly, and times that leave you absolutely stunned and scratching your head (especially clutch games). Last night was a great example. Don't take my word - refer back to posts from posters from around the state who went to the game.

I don't suppose the numerous posts from non-WO-S folks questioning his play calling would lend any credibility to WO-S fan complaints. Oh well, it will break my heart that you don't buy what people are saying. That was, after all, why I logged in - to see what your take on the subject was.

Our DC is one of the best in state, but you can only keep a wall up so long. Was I the only one who thought Lavegas playcalling was pretty horrible also. I mean they won the game but some of the offensive play calls were pretty bad imo

You weren't the only one. They should've kicked a FG on 4th and 4 when they DIDN'T make it and turned it over on downs. They should've also been trying to get into FG position on a different drive before the half when they were throwing Hail Mary's into the endzone looking for the TD. Other than that, they did a good job.

I thought some of the 4th down calls were very "gutsy". If it was me i would of done a fg. I give it to him for the first 4th down try becasue he was testing the water, but i thought some of the others were very gutsy. Le vegas play calling wasnt bad, in the first half WOS was getting the better part of the running game..we were just comin off the ball faster than your line. In the second half the play calling is exactly what i would have done, run up the middle. Everyonce in awhile yall would try to break on the outsides, but you can't do it when teams have the same speed. But good job in the victory

They may not have been on the rosters, but we have 7 Sophomores on the varsity, all of which either start, or get a considerable amount of playing time. We also had one freshman on the varsity, our backup QB. You will hear this name a lot in the future, Reggie Garrett.;)

I also noticed several underclassmen on the WLV roster. I am predicting a rematch of this game next year.

once again the WOS play calling in the 2nd half was suspect. the defense played well, but were just worn down after being on the field about 18 minutes in the 2nd half! field position was a killer for WOS and then the diaster with fumbles and just jaw dropping, inexplicable play calling. hell, i'm not a resident of WOS, but if this is the norm and i saw some of it last week - i'd be a little peeved.
