I agree but lets take it a step futher

How about treating the current U.S. President with the respect HE deserves
GB.
I don't care if you agree with the man's policies or not
the office of The President of the United States deserves respect.
Throughout the entire time that former President Clinton was being drug through the mud in the Monica scandal I was upset with all the Bill this or slick willie refrences.
Like it or not he was the President of the United States at the time, that in its self deserves respect, as does the now President Bush
You may disagree with his decision making so be it, but do not disrespect the office he holds
If Senator Clinton becomes President - I may not like it , I sure won't vote for her - But I will always show respect for the office which she may or may not hold.
Here is hoping for a peaceable non violent end to the situation that is the focus of this whole rant.....

Dont use this thread about people being held hostage at a campaign headquarter to make a statement defending George Bush and his political policies. This is nor the time or place to be talking politics why dont you read the rules first.

Ok ....he earned less votes the first time. But without that first one there would have not been a subsequent term....can you follow that line of thinking. Do I need to get some crayons and a Big Chief tablet and spell it out for you? And he didnt earn my vote either time. Either way I dont want someone to walk in the white house with a bomb strapped to his chest.....

actually, historically there have been many, many instances when a person has run for President and not won, only to run again later and be elected.

I could be wrong, but in recent years how many times has a candidate won the primary, lost the presidential race, and then garnered their parties choice in the primary again? Sure it is possible, but not likely. And this year would not lie in the second term of his presidency, if he didnt win in 2000. I am not sure what the argument is, because he won the electoral college. I dont like Bush, and I never have. I dont respect him as a president or as a person. That doesnt mean I want someone to put a "CAP' in him. Thought that was pretty tacky to suggest.

Another thing I love about Bush-haters, since they don't like Bush, they're twice as smart as you. Well, not so much 2 times as smart, it's just that I'm dumb, because I support our president. I agree with the "cap" statement, but just to clarify:

Adlai Stevenson is the most recent to lose the election and be re-nominated by his party the next election (which he lost again) to Dwigth Eisenhower...Nixon lost and was re-nominated and won two elections later.

Just before Stevenson was Thomas Dewey against Roosevelt and Truman (the famous Dewey wins election newspaper).

The Socialist party, which actually held primaries just like the Dems and Reps while they were around, nominated Eugene Debs every election from 1900 to 1912, and Norman Thomas every election from 1928 to 1948.

So it hasn't happened in real recent history, but historically, it has happened quite frequently dating all the way back to the second election in 1792 when Thomas Jefferson was nominated and subsequently defeated by John Adams.

Not trying to start anything here...just trying to give an accurate answer to your question! :)

I know it has happened, just saying I didnt think it had happened recently. I appreciate the information. I know it is possible to happen, but unlikely in todays political landscape. Too many people want instant gratification...
