You were probably talking to some kid from Best Buy.

I just have a regular aerial. As far as I know as long as you are within range of the digital signal you are bueno.

I get most of my channels in both analog and digital over my old standby aerial.

The NFL wants to eventually broadcast all games through their network(s). (They'll no doubt add more channels similar to what ESPN has done over the years). ESPN reported sometime last year that they (NFL) hope to unltimately set it up in a pay-per-view style system. They'll charge us on a per game basis or we can pay for some sort of package deal to get them all. It won't be cheap. This is still a few years away. But that's why they're putting big market teams like Dallas on their network, to try to force cable operators to pay their ridiculous prices.

Bottom line, the NFL thinks they can get away with just about anything they want because they are the most popular pro sport. I'm a life long Cowboy's fan, and the NFL is about to piss me off. I'm not paying to watch Cowboys games on TV.

An antenna is an antenna. I pick up HD channels with regular bunny ears.

Its the same with anything else though....
if people let them get away with it and pay for it, it will continue to be a problem. If people just stop paying for crap like that, then the upward trend will stop. Its the same as ticket.

Because DirecTv takes the 1920x1080i signal it receives and downrezzes it to 1440x1080i. My cable company since making the change to switched digital video doesn't down rez any of their HD channels.

OK, being a nerd I will point out that you are getting channel 27 on their digital broadcast. They very seldomly broadcast anything in HD format.

The Digital broadcast is superior to analog on clarity, it is a vast improvement, but my TV Guide for 27 digital stream is not showing that ever desired HD symbol which may not mean anything. But, if the HD signal is not transmitted down the digital stream we will just be watching the regular transmission in digital.

We still might not get to enjoy that crystal clear HD wide screen experience. :(

No symbol on the TV Guide, but just saw 27's promo for the game and they declared it will be broadcast in beautiful HD!!!! Hurray! :D

Now its all starting to make sense. Just saw on ESPN's Outside the Lines that Jerry Jones is the Chairman of the NFL Network Commitee. He makes no secrets that they are trying build their network by showing games like this one on their channel. They are just trying to force cable companies to carry the network on the NFL's ridiculous terms. I've got to say, I'm pretty hot about this. They're trying to force us to pay more to watch NFL games! And Jerry is willing to cut of half his fans who don't have dish service from watching our team play so that he and the NFL can get more money from our pockets.

You know what?! Jerry can bite me.....!!

They did the same last year. IMO nobody expected either of these teams to be 10-1. If they were not good nobody would care about this game.

Would as many people care if the records were different? Of course not! But regardless of the Cowboys record there is a large fan base that wants the opportunity to see every game on TV!

I'm sure a part of the fan base would. I certainly would not though. I simply do not care that much. In regards to the NFL Network itself, when we had it I never watched it.

and you can tell a difference between 1920 and 1440? most people can't even tell the difference between 720i and 1080i, let alone the fact that "techies" all tell me that 720p is way better than 1080i anyway.

If you have a display that can fully display a 1920x1080 signal there is a noticeable difference. If its a 720p display you won't notice because the tv has to convert it anyways. It can be very noticeable the larger the display.

I am an ISF certified calibrator though so I do tend to be more picky. But I have had clients that have both sat and cable ask me why their cable picture tends to be sharper on the hd feeds.

crzyjournalist03

I've been told by numerous "TV" people that the 1080i isn't even an authentic broadcast...they said that all stations are sending out their signal at 720p and the 1080i televisions are merely upconverting the picture like an HDDVD player does to old DVDs...perhaps I got some bad info...

TMer25
11-29-2007, 05:35 PM
espn, abc, and fox are the only networks broadcasting at 720p. The other networks are using 1080i.A HdDvd player is totally different from a DVD player that upconverts to hi def resolution. HdDvd's are encoded at 1080p and thats why you pay a bit more for them than you would a regular DVD.

I know kdfi-27 broadcast in 1080i, atleast thats what it says on the channel info you when you flip to it. ABC nbc ect are all 720P. Unless you have a tv over 50" you can't tell the difference anyways.

meh, mine's a 37"...I can get 1080i, but I prefer the 720p resolution on mine, so that's what I have it programmed on.
