I've never been to Navasota for anything, just driven though it...but what is up with that town? The portion I drove through looked completely run down and in need of some major upgrades. I mean no disrespect by this...I just figured a Navasota poster could give me some insight as to why the city is like this. Are there any plans to 'upgrade' the town?

Yeah...I think Navasota is starting to center itself a lot more by the main highway...that seems to be the trend of the future for most towns.

its friggin smart if you ask me, way more commerce and more oppurtunities for business.

but, does navasota base more out of the spread or under center? what kinda looks are we going to see?

According to the numbers the Navasota v. Liberty Hill would come in second only behind a Movie thread.

Not trying to butt in..lol Navasota is the oldest city in the Brazos Valley. Most of the town was centered around downtown just as towns are today. Before the highway 6 loop was built, traffic was funneled directly through downtown. This is the same for College Station, Bryan, Hempstead. Hearne is still like that today. Now, with the highway 6 Loop being built in the 70's, many businesses started to relocate to the Loop. The new high school was the first to be built. Since then, everyone else has followed..ie WalMart, Popeyes, McDonalds, Sonic, Best Western, Church's Chicken, Aarons, Tractor Supply Company, etc...A great deal of work has gone in to try and revitilize the downtown area. Also, I do know that in the 80's, we had 2 Brookshire Bros along with 2 other grocery stores. One of the BB was located on Highway 6 and the other was in town. They soon closed down the one on highway 6 and built what they have now in town. Meanwhile, businesses such as Kroger, Whataburger, HEB, Jack In The Box have tried to bring their businesses to Navasota. Now, I am talking about over 20 years for Kroger and HEB, and Whataburger and JIB more recently....For the most part, the older generation of the Chamber of Commerece has kept those companies out. Taco Bell was very successful, but, negotiations broke down with the owner and other parties causing the restaurant to close. Oh, they were supposed to have built a supercenter walmart the same time that Sealy built theirs, but the decided to wait. They are still trying to build one in College Station on highway 6 which would be about 15 minutes from Navasota.

It's great, and its going to be even greater when we get it rocking as soon as football season is over... in December. Hopefully they are smart enough to bring in all the old banners... thats great tradition right there.

I talked to a construction worker the Friday before that and he said they still had to put down the last coat of whatever it is they put down over the weekend and then it would be done and ready to play on.

I can understand that. It's not exactly necessary, but it would have been a pretty cool thing to have. Everything else looks great though, including the new stands. I'm not sure the fans know which side to sit on though... I believe the bigger far side of the gym is suppose to be the home side.

I think a new dugout and backstop got approved and they are going to start on that... but it would have been nice to be able to get some new stands (the view point from the stands now isnt too great and there barely is any) and a new pressbox.

Well, the visitors should have the seats directly behind their team...lol...When we played in the district with Brenham, in Brenham, we would have the side with the one section and the Brenham would sit in the side with the upper/lower section. No one really brings a large crowd with them except for Smithville girls and Giddings...

BTW, I love the entrance from the top of the stands

Yeah, but Navasota always packs it. And as much as I hate to say it, our fans can get a little passionate... wouldn't like to have them sitting right next to other passionate fans from another school.

Well, I guess we can make due, but I always figured they would make the home side in the new gym very large to accomodate for the packed basketball crowds we always have. There is never a seat in the house when V-Squad starts, especially against a rival.

They tried....plans didn't work out like they wanted them to. There are 1200 seats though.

I hear what you are saying. But Navasota would be to a disadvantage...Where the teams sits is slightly smaller than the other side due to the entrance. Besides, it should never be a big problem unless we move back to 4a, play Brenham, or Hempstead..The crowds are much larger then as they bring alot more fans.

Yeah... still a good amount of seats though. We'll see how packed it gets once football is over... until then, basketball is a distant second thought, for me at least.

Ya, somewhere like 125 posts ago, yet only a few hours, I said I would not post anymore on this thread. But since the topic has somehow changed to Navasota community stuff, I feel obliged to comment.

Walmart - Worked there part time last year for almost a year. They have been approved and are on the list. Actually were supposed to get a Supercenter before College Station. We had a bathroom renovation project scrapped just because of the new supercenter being almost ready. Latest word is construction funds available in fiscal year 2009, which starts next fall.
Only other new construction rumors around town are a few multi-story hotels/motels, don't know who they are, but as always, we'll see when it actually happens.

We sure do have a lot of friggin banks now though! I figure Woodforest will be next as Greater Houston continues it's land gobbling.

It is exciting to see the changes and the growth. Hope that the changes will benefit the town and the entire community. I sure wish that I had some money. I would def. invest in some type of fast food restaurant on 105. That traffic coming in and out of Conroe is huge. Someone stands to make a killing.

Hey, how about a Chili's? That would be a nice addition.

They are still too unsure about the final path of SH 249. At present it is supposed to tie in to SH 6 between the Railroad overpass and SH 105 with a flyover(s) like in Hempstead. But nothing is set in stone yet. SH 105 and FM 1774 south of 105 are both funded in the next few years to be widened to four lane divided highways. 1774 will be divided from Plantersville to Tomball, and SH 105 will be divided from Cleveland to Navasota:eek: Add in the IH-69 cutting our county in half on it's way from Hempstead to Huntsville, and the High Speed rail way that is supposed to connect BCS to Houston/Beaumont, and it really makes predicting commercial revenue hot-spots useless.

You have made a valid statement. With all this, Navasota will def. see some growth in population and businesses. Maybe growth that rivals Magnolia!?

I doubt that we will go from having a 4A high school with 1100 enrollment to two 5A high schools and 5000-ish enrollment in a mere 7 years. Magnolia officially takes the cake with freakish school district growth. But heck, I remember when I was in Junior High, we played Conroe York and Polk, and they were like the two junior highs along with Conroe High, Conroe McCullough (now the Woodlands High 9th, maybe 10th too?) and Oak Ridge High. Now Oak Ridge is 5A, The Woodlands College Park is new and 5A, and Conroe Caney Creek will be 5A before you know it. I remember playing Caney Creek their first year in Basketball at their home gym and slaughtering them like 91-27.

Yeah, I remember those days. I too don't believe that student growth will rival Magnolia, more like Montgomery. Waller is another school that may be looking at 5A in a few years. In addition, I don't see Hempstead staying 2A for much longer. Waller County is booming. Unfortunately for Hempstead, new growth opt to go to Waller due to the academic disparities, per Hempstead Board Member of 20 years.
