If a team refused to trade film in the playoffs? It is a violation of UIL rules. What should the UIL do, or should they do anything?

call coaches from teams the other team played - get all the scoop that way and then beat the living crap out them....... We've done that before - Sweet Victory :D

i do not believe its against UIL rules to refuse to trade film....it may be a District Policy that is voted on by the coaches that says they must trade at least a minimum amount of tapes for preparation in District games but I do not believe it is a UIL rule at all. I know a few coaches that do not trade film during the postseason.

I know for sure that it is indeed a violation of UIL rules, now just wanting to know what the UIL should or will do.

i do not think it is, i believe hearing how china springs would not trade with rockdale because of some trick plays on film. so rockdale went to another waco area school and got them, and no harm done. china springs was not penalized.

but i could be wrong?

Randy Allen at Highland Park is well known for not trading film during the playoffs.

if there is a rule...im guessing the rule would be a 2 tape trade. Just guessing though. AND....if this is a rule, UIL does not do a very good job of enforcing it because I know of MANY schools that do not trade in the playoffs

What would the UIL do if the DI and DII state champs scheduled their own game and played?

No rule about it. During district play you have to trade film if the district rules state it. Non District of Playoffs there is no rule on it, I know this because I have had this occur in non-district. Ethically you should, but you do not have to.

I just spoke with Peter Contreras of the UIL and he told me it was mandatory to trade two films unless the two teams agreed not to trade...

Did you ask about a penalty or what would happen if a school did not trade and was turned in?

SECTION 1250: Football Plan
(p) GAME TAPES- Playoff teams are required to exchange two game tapes. The opposing school selects the two tapes desired from all previous games of the current season.

The problem is that some schools trade crappy films that are too far away, etc. If one school trades good films, the other should, too.

i was under the impression that trade wasn't mandatory in the playoffs but I was wrong. Of course, Im guessing not much if anything would be done to a school for refusing. If a Team A gets mad that Team B wont trade with them, Team A will call UIL and UIL will try to make contact with Team B and finally will the day before the game or something and the UIL will tell Team B that they need to trade film from then on and then the game goes on as scheduled.

I just looked it up and here it is......It is 1250 section P

GAME TAPES. Playoff teams are required to exchange two game tapes. The opposing school selects the two tapes
desired from all previous games of the current season.

Thos comes exactly from the UIL, and it does not pose any type of penalty for not trading films.

one would think if there is a rule then there would have to be a consequence.

you have to remember this is the UIL you are talking about.....they take their time with a LOT of stuff. Like I said earlier, Im betting that if a team were turned in for this rules violation, the worst thing that would happen would be a warning of some type. If a school became a repeat offended then maybe a reprimand would be given and something placed in that coaches file. They wouldn't force a forfeit or make a disqualification i dont believe

Jock City,

Since you are a Fort Stockton poster, are you saying that Andrews refused to trade films? Just curious.......

I don't know the real benefit of not trading anyway. The other team can get film from another opponent of yours and all you've accomplished is making the other team mad at you!

And if the contest does become onesided, then plan for the dogs to not be called off at all!
