Snyder is putting a whooping on people, makes me think they have somthing. Maybe the vernon/graham winner might not be the best one in Region 1 ? Of course given that Graham gets by Argyle. I have a feeling that Graham loses tonight. They dont have the history of going very far in the playoffs.

Thanks. My crystal ball has only missed two that I picked so far. Giddings and RC.
I thought WOS had a shot at Giddings but was surprised a little by RC. I guess they were more banged up than they let on. Velt did play one heck of a game. Probably just a team coming together at the right time.

This is a good example that you must be able to run the ball effective in the playoffs if you plan to keep advancing. Remember, Argyle was 9-2, now 10-2.

Snyder's O is stronger than their own D right now in my opinion. The have had trouble with passing teams in the past. Their O puts up lots of points but then their D gives up lots of points too. I would like to go see this game.

Good observation, but our pass defense has improved several fold in the last weeks.

As you can tell by the number of times I have posted I usually keep to myself but I finally have to speak. Not all Tiger fans are pompous idiots! I have only missed four games in the last six years (The Rogers era). Coach Rogers and his staff are a class act. The young men on this years team and every team I can remember in the past have been class acts. I am proud to be a Tiger fan from Snyder and West Texas. I don't feel I have to gloat about it. Some of our posters forget what it was like in the late eighties only winning one game a year. Since Coach Rogers took over we have three times the number of gold balls on the wall than in the previous eighty years before him. You bet I'm proud of the whole program but I don't have to blow our horn, those young men will do it for me on the field. Not all of us are pain in the rears. I'll get ff my soap box now.

STEPHENVILLE-- Call it the gift that keeps on giving, even if it is a bit of a self-serving one.
Running back Kyle Frizzell had 132 yards on 25 carries and scored a touchdown to lead Argyle to a 21-8 win over Graham (10-2) on Saturday in some nasty weather conditions at Memorial Stadium at Tarleton State University. The win puts Argyle (10-2) in the regional quarterfinal next week against Snyder (10-2).
After the game, Frizzell gave all the glory to his offensive linemen. After all, they kind of owed him.
Frizzell got to 993 yards on the season in last week’s 17-0 win over Clyde, and promised his linemen he’d take them out for a steak dinner when he passed 1,000 yards — only the second 1,000-yard rusher in Argyle history.
So last week, Frizzell took his linemen and their dates to Silver Fox in Grapevine and dropped $733 on steak, and watching the holes the junior had to run through, it paid dividends.
“Our coaches have been telling us all week this is a tough team,” Frizzell said. “We’d been prepping the linemen and working with them. We were gonna do everything we could to open the run tonight. They did a great job. It was all the linemen.”
The win was the second straight uncharacteristic win for Argyle, who pitched their first shutout of the year last week against Clyde and then came out and threw just 16 passes and played ball-control offense in Saturday’s win over Graham, who played eight playoff teams in the regular season. Graham's only loss was a 17-10 loss to Vernon in Week 9.
“We have an offense that basically we try to take what they give us,” said Argyle head coach Todd Rodgers. “Graham was wanting to stop our passing game and the offensive line and [Frizzell] bowed up and ran the ball well enough to maintain long drives.”
Senior quarterback JJ Harp came into the game as one of the area’s top passers and with the exception of an inconsequential interception, ran a near-flawless game from under center.
Harp finished the night completing 13 of 16 passes for 126 yards and a touchdown, and went 9 for 10 in the first half with his only incompletion being a drop in the end zone.
Harp had some bad memories of Memorial Stadium dating back to last season’s bi-district round when Argyle lost to Sweetwater 20-14 with Harp nursing an injured wrist and hip, and they were one-and-done in the postseason.
“It was an opportunity for him to come out and kind of overcome the issues that he dealt with last year,” Rodgers said. “For him to show up and avenge an injury-prone playoff game last year and beat Graham was a great tribute to his character and fortitude to lead our football team like that.”
The game started off horribly for Argyle when Frizzell fumbled on the game’s third play from scrimmage to give Graham the ball at the Argyle 40-yard line.
Argyle's defense forced a three-and-out and took over at their 5-yard line, but on the drive’s first play, Harp fumbled the shotgun snap and an Argyle offensive lineman fell on the ball to save a touchdown and give Graham the safety.
The Steers got the ball and needed just seven plays to take an 8-0 lead after head coach Brad McCoy went for a two-point conversion instead of kicking the extra point to take a two-score lead.
From that point on, Argyle's defense stifled Graham’s balanced spread attack and was helped by sub par effort from quarterback Case McCoy, the brother of University of Texas quarterback Colt McCoy.
The sophomore completed just 1 of 11 passes with two interceptions for minus-1 yards, leaving Graham's offense to rely heavily on running back Jake Holub, who finished the night with 22 carries for 126 yards and one touchdown. Graham also lost two fumbles.
Argyle appeasr to have bucked the stereotype of their team being a finesse passing team that can’t pound the ball.
Frizzell, on the other hand, is fine with that perception.
“We are a finesse passing team,” Frizzell said. “JJ can do wonders with the football and I’m there to complement the passing game. As long as we’re winning I’m happy.”

FrstDwn RushYds PassYds Pass Punt-Avg Pnlty Fmb-Lost

As far as Graham being overated..I don't think that was the case. I still think we were a better team than Vernon, and Argyle just outplayed us. But they are a good team. I really wish we could have gotten that rematch against Vernon....but oh well....that is how the cookie crumbles.

Yea, Snyder wouldn't know anything about being overlooked or underrated. We're just lucky to have gotten out of district play. Thats what one would believe if they listened to all the nay sayers.

But someone said on another thread " Thats why we play the game". Snyder and Argyle both will leave it all on the field, and the better team will win. But when its over, some jack@$$ will say the winner was just lucky. Apparently talent is not needed to advance in the Texas High School Playoffs.

Teams who reach this stage of the playoffs have good defenses and good offenses or they would be upacking the basketballs right now. Argyle is 10-2, just like Snyder. I expect a very good and competitive football game.

That's the worst part about this whole thing. Say Argyle goes far, they'll more than likely be stripped of these wins. Yeah, they did break rules, b/c I don't know about you guys, but I don't know any highschool kids throwing down $750 for a meal. This ain't Laguna Beach. But yeah, I think once the UIL gets a hold of this, Argyle will more than likely lose these games. Sad story.

It is a sad thing, but these kids, and all of our HS athletes need to know the rules. I can't believe his coach allowed it to happen.

Just out of curiosity...if a team has to forfeit the last playoff game...what happens??

Would Graham (for example) get a call on Thursday telling them they will be playing Friday night???

I think it depends when the complaint if made. I seem to remember one down in Houston area several years ago that wound up with injunctions being filed in court and handled through the courtroom. But I don't remember which team played the games.

I just have a feeling about Snyder this year. Where will these teams play? Wichita Falls? Graham? Vernon? I will go to that game if it is in any of those three. Give me Vernon and Snyder and Vernon 32-31 over Snyder.

From what i'm hearing from a fella...Vernon is slow:thinking:
