they're saying that one of the Garrett brothers is out tonight for WOS. So they're playing w/ only half of that combo...that kinda balances out the loss of Fitzhenry.

WOS already down to the 29...this is gonna be a track meet.

I want to see what Chris Parr can do against this stout WOS team. It will be a dog fight next Friday night I still think LV is flying under the radar a little bit

Lavega is beatable dont get me wrong but you can talk Whaley Pratt or any other 3a running back and Chris Parr may be just as good or better. Kortney Parr aint bad either

There's the Calhoun kid out in Van, the Clay kid in Snyder, etc. etc.

As I said last year, it was a shame to see two teams of this quality have to play in just the second round. There's no doubt in my mind that we'd have met two rounds from now if we hadn't played tonight (no disrespect to LaVega - I'm assuming that they also would be a later-round game). Congrats to Giddings on a great season and a hard-fought, memorable game. You had a lot of speed and talent on the field out there tonight. Dock really is a beast, and I was impressed that a kid his size is punting, returning punts, etc.

I hate to break this, but there's no such thing as a sixth-ranked 11-0 team "flying under the radar." We were laying low until this week, but I have to guess that tonight will change that.

Yes, Fitz was out for Giddings, but WO-S was missing arguably their best player on offense as well. To be honest, I've seen Fitzhenry twice, and Locke played as well as he did in either of those games - and better passing.

I thought the game was not officiated well, but not poorly enough to affect the outcome. While my eyes obviously are blind to Giddings getting robbed (which I'm sure happened), they did see our punter get laid out with no flag, our CB get tackled by a WR and have a flag for defensive PI, and a WO-S receiver who was grabbed around the waist and hit his shoulder on the ground as he stretched for a first, which jolted the ball loose. It was called a fumble, even though his entire body hit before the arm holding the ball. Again - I don't think it affected the outcome, but wasn't it an oddly-called game for a playoff crew?

I hope all is healing well with Fitzhenry as he prepares for his stint at Texas, where he'll probably be playing CB alongside two WO-S grads - Beasley and Earl Thomas. That will be one hell of an athletic defensive backfield!

Go MUSTANGS!

I agree with you Crime...it was a poorly officiated game. It very well could have made a difference in the game. They tried to do everything they could to give it to Giddings. The PI was crap! Their receiver was behind our defender and their receiver pulled our guy down (both were facing the ball) and WE got the PI! BULLBUTTER! The fumble was crap, too, just like you said. He was clearly down and the whistle had blown, yet they called it a fumble and gave it to Giddings. There were several illegal blocks they didn't call against Giddings. I hate having to play Refs, too. I'm so proud of our Mustangs.

Yeah, the refs had their share of blown calls and missed calls. However, I was happy that they caught the Giddings cheapshots (late hits). The Buffs have become known for this kind of thing. At least they escaped without any ejections this time.

Not having a 3 year starter out there for that game did hurt Giddings chances on the game, he ran the offense, most of the time he was the offense.

Locke made some very, very crucial plays in the second half which included some huge completions on 3rd down. I don't think Brock would have done any better or worse. As for the mental factor, I can see where that could be a problem. Most people don't know this but Quinny Garrett, the back who was out last night, was the starting tailback for Cisco last year before he moved back home. Cisco went to the 2A state title game. He is not just a good, but a great back. Losing him hurt WOS, but WOS is a TEAM. When you play as a team, you can overcome the loss of one person.

Well I can't say anyone on this thread thus far has surprised me any.

Congratulations to WOS, you guys have a great ball club, good luck the rest of the way.

To the sore winners out there who I can't believe are talking about the officials, are you insane? I wasn't going to bring it up, even though we lost, but there were some questionable calls that hurt us or could have helped us if they had been made or made the other way. But I will agree, they didn't change the outcome of the game either way. I just can't believe that WOS posters brought up the officiating after that win.

The difference in the game was the 95 yard kick off return. That made the 28 to 19 spread that proved to be too much for the buffs to come back from. The two score separation put us in a bind. Changed the play calling options when we later made it to the WOS 3 yard line. Heck even a field goal at that point would have POTENTIALLY won it had it still been 21 to 19, I UNDERSTAND THIS WASN'T THE CASE THOUGH.

Now to address the giddings haters out there who think we are the dirtiest team in america. The boys made the town proud last night. They faught hard till the end with class. There was ONE late hit, that's right ONE; and I truly believe the lineman thought the play was still going. I think WOS played with a lot of class as well even though they had more personal fouls than us.

NOTE: I was right about this game in some ways, wrong in one. I thought that it would be a defensive war, which both defenses are VERY good, but there were more points scored than I thought. I did say that if either team scored 28 they would win. I would have bet you that if giddings scored 3 tds that they would have won. I would have lost that bet.

LOCKE played one hell of a game for getting thrown in there against a very fast wos defense. Like i have stated, i would have thought his 3 tds would have won this game. WOS offense was better than I thought, of course they did very well at running right at us, OUR WEAKNESS this year and last.

Some of you may agree or disagree with me, I just can't say I expected to get on here and read some of the crap i did. We are proud of our buffs, this year this week the breaks went the other way.

Once again good luck to WOS.

Congatulations to Giddings on your great season, I hope that you are standing PROUD.

I was at the game and pretty much watching closeup through binoculars. The Buffs #7, did a fantastic job on both offense and defense. And I will say that he is one of the classiest players I've ever seen in HS FB. What I saw from him, was genuinely good sportsmanship...
ie:
patting the other team on the back....helping WOS players up, when he happened to tackle them......the first one to take a knee when a WOS player was hurt AND then turn around to tell his teammates to do the same. Not to mention, he has an extreme amount of talent, both offensively and defensively.

What I saw from "some" not all, other players were cheap shots, hitting opponents from the back after the play was over, etc.... Now I don't know if there was any trash talking, to provoke those shots, it's hard to see their mouths moving when they have their helmets on.
But realistically that's HS FB. Unfortunately:(

Both teams fought hard last night, both are very talented and well coached, but the better team won this year.

What I hate to hear, especially for the players sake is, that "if #5 was playing, Giddings would have won." What's that saying to the rest of the team? They are not worthy of a win without him? WOW  Then by those standards, they aren't really needed out there.
It's been said that they are at their best when 5 is out there, I'm sure they are, but I'm also sure the coaches prepare for that scenario.

Yes, #5 is the top QB in the state and there are really not enough words/space to describe his talent in this post, but #7 is very talented too, as is the rest of the team, let's not overlook them. They were playing a talented team, with lots of speed and a great offense/deffense. WOS was missing one of the top, if not THE top RB in the state and they overcame.
They deserve credit for a great game played.
And on the other hand, Giddings deserves credit, for a well played game last night too.

Congratulations Stangs!! The best of luck next week .

.......by the way, the refs weren't "that" bad. :D but if you think about it, every game and every sport has bad calls and usually not so great refs/umps. So I guess we should be used to it.

I know, I know, you don't have to say it......"STICK TO SOFTBALL"

To BUFF

DUDE...I DID give credit to Giddings on the other thread and yet you turned it around and said it was pathetic. ALL you saw was that I said the officiating sucked (and it DID). I said that Giddings was huge, were tough and played hard the whole night. YOU are the one who kept ranting on the game. You wanna talk about "class"? Your h/c wouldn't shake hands with our h/c. How's THAT for class? I saw our players talking and hugging some of your players after the game. That was nice.

We are talking about the game. WE thought the officiating sucked. It's our opinion on the game. If you don't like, you can disagree, but don't call me or anybody else "pathetic" because of our opinion. YOU are the sore loser.

Agree the officiating might have been not perfect, but it definetely didn't hurt either team more than the other.

I am sorry for our coach being like that, and I have stated in places that players from both sides acted with class after the game, I witnessed the same thing you did. Your head coach also found #7 Locke after the game and had a conversation with him that looked very genuine from where I was.

Not necessarily you, but some people on this thread just really skewed the view on the game.

Some of the calls just weren't correct, not putting anything against any team b/c they both played well. I know you can't blame refs, but some of the calls just weren't correct. There were a couple that i thought were fishy for both teams and there were some that weren't even called when it was pretty evident. Refs can't see everything, but it could've been better. Congrats to the Giddings team and good luck to Brock at UT (that hurts sayin that "Gig'em")

The officiating wasn't that bad. I've seen much worse. The only call I strongly disagreed with was the pass interference. I thought the receiver pulled the defender to the ground, yet the defender was penalized. There were a few occassions where the refs did not see personal fouls made by Giddings, but they did catch some of them. Overall, the officiating did NOT determine the outcome of the game.

20FAN07
11-25-2007, 01:16 PM
your right, it didnt determine the game. I thought the interference was a bad call. There were alot going on by both kids, but i have to agree with the offensive guy pulling him down. Do you even wonder for a moment with so many schools other than WO-S mentioning the dirty play of Giddings this year and in the past three years that maybe...just MAYBE...there is a problem? Hmmmm...?

Like I stated earlier...it all falls in the lap of the coaches. Fitzhenry not shaking hands withour coach is just another symptom of the real problem.

Guys, I am with Buff on this one. I really don't know why the officiating thing was brought up. Yes, I did disagree with the PI in the 4th quarter, but they didn't score on that drive so it did not hurt us. I also remember a pass early in the 3rd quarter where the official could have easily called PI on us and he didn't. They ended up scoring on that drive anyway, so I don't really see an issue. There are always going to be close calls and one side will think it's bad and the other good. I really don't see why this was brought up.

As for the personal fouls. WOS had one in the beginning of the game for unnecessary roughness. Giddings had a minimum of 3 of them. They were not even close. I will say that I did not see near as much taunting by the Giddings players.

I agree. As someone who had no vested interest other than hoping to watch a really good game, I didn't think the refs were THAT bad. There are always gonna be missed calls, but none of them really had any effect on the outcome of the game.

Congrats to the Buffs on a good season.

WOS is the fastest team I've seen this year. They are a tad faster than Cuero, but their offense is no where near as explosive! I would have liked them to attack rather than sit on the lead. Maybe the Giddings defense had something to do with that too, but some of the play calling in the 2nd half was troubling. No offense intended.

I talked about this with the WOS bunch that was kind enough to invite me to go hang with them after the game! Thanks guys - it was fun & I really enjoyed meeting everyone. I'll have a pic up later this afternoon.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black...Stangfan whats your dog in this fight??? The loss your team suffered was last week. 1 player on your team played dirtier than almost any team I've seen this year except for maybe 1 player on Wimberley.

Your posts do nothing except show us you are a very sore loser.

My hat is off to WO-S, your team and your coach really excelled. I've got video of the whole game. When I get time I'll look at it closer. I'm with the pirate lady, I think the ref's called a decent game. Your team may have missed the brother running back but my hat is off to the one that played. He really brought his A game. He kept Gidding's D in check and really moved the ball well.

It sure is lame that 2 teams of this talent have to play so early every year lately(in the playoffs). This could have easily been a state championship game.
WO-S still has a uphill battle. Good luck the rest of the way. I may come watch you guys play again if you play closer to Austin later on.

Again, Good luck.

I thought the PI was could have been a no call, but the defense did run into him early with his eyes off the ball, then the offense pulled him at the last second.
The fumble was a great call, he was not down and there was not a whistle blown.:hand:
I will look for the blocks, but my hunch is you guess on that stuff too.

I thought the first pf could have been a no call, because I dont think the defender knew the qb did not have the ball anymore.
I thought that there could have been holding on wos on a pass ruled uncatchable up the middle of the field.
I also would have called kick catch int. on wos on the punt before halftime.

Funny to see what happened when no 19 year olds were on the field.

Again, Good luck. why do I have to have a dog in the fight (what is it w/ you people and a "dog in the fight") to say that this thread is the poster thread for beating a dead horse? OH...I might also have an interest because of the fact I picked WOS to win a title before the season started....do a search and look it up. Thanks for noticing me over here

What makes you thinks there were no 19 year olds on the field? I think there were probably several.

The fumble was a great call, he was not down and there was not a whistle blown.:hand:

:D Thanks!
"The daughter" says we ARE coming to the game.
I'm still thinking about it.
We are kind of missing the extended season, since my son-in-law's team is out of it so soon. We have gone into the middle of Dec. the last several years.
It was great meeting all of you guys.

Good luck to the Stangs! I had you picked for the State CH. too.

2nd to last post (http://bbs.3adownlow.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=68662&highlight=state+title) there not quite there yet, but if they get by the Region 4 team then u can lay claim to picking them to reach the state title game.

Have not been on since the game, but I wanted to say Congrats to a great WOS team. They played good, and had great class. :)

To the buffs, good season. You guys are alot better than alot of teams still in it, unfortunate that two great teams have to meet so early. Just like last year, WOS was better than most teams left in it.

I was very shocked to see Locke put up what should have been 21 points against the WOS defense. I would have thought that would be enough to get a win with the defense the buffs have had, but oh well. Congrats WOS and good luck to your team

I think the player that ran this back, is a sophomore!

Here is a quote from 8/8/07 that I posted:

"agreed, I have WOS favored to make a champ. appearance, perhaps Giddings. Both from Reg. III."

so...I'm not sure what you mean.."then you can lay claim if they get by reg. IV." I PICKED THEM AS A FAV. BEFORE THE SEASON. I'm not saying they're IN the game yet...I said they WOULD be. If I am proved wrong..then my prediction was inaccurate. As far as having to wait to lay claim to something...no...I've already claimed I THOUGHT they'd make the title game. That's how predictions work...you PREDICT something will happen before it happens.
:p
