easy pick

you should see the rest of the schedules next week

After struggling against Wakeland, can RC live up to its #5 ranking?

Or will Roosevelt shake up the region?

As much as I hate to say it, Roosevelt is hitting on all cylinders at the right time. This is probably the biggest game Roosevelt has had in at least a decade.

yep

didn't want to have royse city again, especially since if they win and gilmer wins it will be 3 in a row next week, but there's nothing in d2 that comes close

roosevelt is definately playing well

Roosevelt's QB, Vincent McNeil, is playing out of his mind right now. Six more touchdown passes tonight against Kennedale. Even though he plays for Velt he sure is fun to watch. Not too many things that kid can't do on a football field.

DII Region II looks terribly easy for Celina, no wonder they make deep runs there are no top tier teams to play until they meet region 1. Region 4 looks almost as bad. Rio Hondo should, roll right ? Before they go small school big school I am sure it loks different. Does the DI bracket just looked stacked in those regions ?

Forget about the offensive threat for the time being that Roosevelt will bring, it is given. I was just looking at year to date stats and the Roosevelt defense is really good, especially against the pass. They have given up under 600 yrds total the whole year against the pass.

They have 24 seniors, the only loss was to 5A Molina, and they only lost by 4 points. THat saem Molina team is a 5A playoff team.

RC needs to improve after last weeks offensive performance.

Well after digging a little more I have detgermined the following on incomplete stats research:

Roosevelt has not played a strong passing team yet. Madison is the only opponent I have found so far that has thrown for more than 1,000 yards. and they threw for 1051, or avg of 95/game. This all based on stats through the DMN leaderboard so it is incomplete at this point.

Roosevelt has played three 4a and 1 5a schools. Their only loss to the 5A Molina which lost this week to Mesquite big 40 something - 0. Opponent record for Roosevelt is 47-67, opponent record for RC this yeqr is 58-58.

I am consumed with football right now, I realize these stats may not mean much but it keeps me going till the next game. I like to know as much as possible about the matchup.

I will update more later.

When I saw Velt, thier defense was pretty good, nothing stellar though. Wakeland has a better D than Velt.

G I think Roosevelt is good but not as good as Wakeland. Roosevelt has not played a true spread team at all. RC will really make it tough on them. I think RC wins this one. However I could be wrong.
I was just remembering last year when everybody said Madison was tough. The district they are in plays undisciplined football most of the time. RC plays well as a unit especially on O. Roosevelt's d will not be as tough to move on as Wakelands. But they do have athletes. RC is going to have to execute. But I think they will.

With weak schedules on both sides to date, this will be the toughest opponent either team has faced.

I take royse city by 10-14.

Roosevelt's only loss has been to a 5A Playoff team and they beat a very good 4A team in SOC by 10 and hammered Madision and Kennedale. They have beaten some decent teams. They didnt play a 3A team until District.

kaorder1999

the only 4A team or higher RC beat was a very bad Terrell team. Though they did play a good Canton team and spank them and a good Pittsburg team and spank them!

Well I finished the compilation of teams that Roosevelt has faced and their total passing yards...the FW schools are based on avg x number of games because the dfw varsity site does not show the cumulative for the year for each team. here they are:

Team Pass/Year
Lincoln 1400
FW Eastern Hills 1965
Molina 501
SOC 1490
Smith 1184
Lake Worth 1220
Castleberry 1120
DhillJarvis 130
Madison 1051
Carr Ranchview 650
kennedale 330

Eastern Hills was the team that had the most passing yards, in the game against Roos they had 128 yds. It was the 2nd game of the year.

Can you believe Diamond Hill Jarvis only avg'd 12.9 yards passing a game?

yes because they only ran the ball....the game I saw them play their RB rushed for like 330 yards and they still lost. Dallas Molina throws the ball maybe 5-6 times a game. They run the splitback veer

I love that offense...Coach Carroll brought it to RC when I was a JR. Dive, dive, dive, load, load,load...play action to the TE off the arc release (me) bearing down on the safety, he sucks up to the run...TD, no one around stop you...of course you have to have a good QB and RB if not two...

kaorder1999

and Molina probably has the best QB that ever ran this offense calling the plays for Molina. Thomas Lott, QB at OU when they were GOOD at running this offense with Billy Simms

I was speaking about their Defense. Wakeland plays very sound Defense. Ask RC why they struggled to put up 21 points. Roosevelt will not stop the pass nearly as well as Wakeland. Now offensively Roosevelt is better. But you really showed your lack of knowledge tonight on that one.

Wakeland has been is at 17 in Masseys while Roosevelt sits at 53. Wakelands strength of schedule is about 36 in the state vs Roosevelts 138. Now while I will admit that Power rankings are not always that accurate, I believe that this is a wide enough margin to really bet on. Roosevelt outside the top 50 is exactly what I said. A good team that will not give RC as much trouble as Wakeland. RC 42 - 21.

Now back to this game...

Both teams have quite a bit on the line.

Royse City is trying to make it to at least the State Quarterfinals for the 3rd time in four years.

Roosevelt is trying to make the third round of the playoffs for the first time since 1999 when Robert Timmons was playing QB for Roosevelt and they lost in the 3rd round to Ennis.

IMO Wakeland gave RC trouble because of their strength on D is a good secondary. RC won the game basically on a good ground game, and a couple of bubble screens that broke for big plays. If RC would have been a power run team I think they would have pretty much done the same thing that Celina did to Wakeland

We forget that when both teams are talented, the styles, and schemes can and do beocme as important as the players on the field.

Again this week I think RC faces A Defense that can cause them some problems. Velt has speed and athleticism, BUT it remains to be seen that they will be able to play good scheme in the secondary and take away some of the things RC likes to do.

For RC on defensem this IS WITHOUT A DOUBT their toughest opponent. Velt with their QB can do so many different things, and McNiel can take a broken play and turn it into a 75 yd Pass or Run.

RC will HAVE to be able to play defense on a play longer than normal, because you might take away everything Velt wants to do, only to see McNeil roll one way, cut back across the field and then loft a pass between two defenders 45 yards down field with a flick of the wrist like he is playing 5 yd catch, the guy is THAT good

You know the more I look at the Wakeland game I think less of RC and more of Roosevelt. The kid qb from velt can play. They sure have a better O than Wakeland no doubt about that. At least at this point in the season. Maybe Roosevelt ends RC's run now. Woo hoo what do ya think?
My only question is does Velt stop the run or not. Lots of rushing yards in 11 games.
Close to 200 yards per. Now I know that most of the teams they play don't throw that much. RC is more balanced at around 135 per rushing and passing give or take a couple. The thing that makes Velt look suspect tho is a team like Lake Worth scoring 35 points on them. What was that about. Or the fact that RC has played very few good defensive teams on their roll. I still maintain that Wakeland was the best D they have faced and the score bears me out. This might be the best game to watch. Hard to predict just what will happen. I just thought that RC would not have that much trouble till Gilmer but Wakeland sure gave them fits and maybe Velt will too.

Best 9-2 team in the state....... Hey dogdad. Seriously, How good is RC on stopping the run. I think that they can have velt if they force them into longer downs and make them pass more. They can throw the ball but they only attempted 15 passes against Kennedale
and completed 9. Kennedale turned the ball over in the third a couple of times and basically got put into a catchup situation.
Not good. If RC could get out in front and force Velt to play catchup that might win the game.

i honestly haven't decided yet

DR has McNeil and a good supporting cast

even with injuries, RC has at least two solid gold playmakers in Gallegos and Morrison

I say RC wins in a shootout, but it will be very close

I have some advice for you guys that are deciding who to pick:
RC is banged up
Roosevelt has some great athletes
RC squeaked by Wakeland
Roosevelt blasted Kennedale

RC is gonna cruise in this one, Roosevelt has not seen an offense like this one.......don't even think about picking DR

RC is banged up
Roosevelt has some great athletes
RC squeaked by Wakeland
Roosevelt blasted Kennedale

RC is gonna cruise in this one, Roosevelt has not seen an offense like this one.......don't even think about picking DR
Listen to what I'm telling you

uh oh...starting to sound like a Celina fan...:D

Everyday this week I feel better and better about Royse Citys chances. I am actually thinking RC 35 or 42 Roosevelt 13 Feeling better everyday about it. Alot of positives for Royse City unfolding this week. Look out!!!

I was leaning that way the bought into the hype of Velt. But something does not add up. I use massey's alot for my stats and looking at them makes me wonder how Velt can stack up.

Royse City--- 11 0 0 1.848 (6) 43.49 (7) 48.71 (6) 17.19 (13) 19.43 (46) 3A II-10

Dal Roosevelt 10 1 0 1.111 (31) 25.71 (38) 36.55 (40) 11.58 (39) 9.59 (125) 3A II-11

RC is number 6 in overall rating and 7 in power.

DR is 31 in overall rating and 38 in power.

Looks like RC should win by at least a couple of scores.

By comparison Wakeland was 16 and
RC was 6 when they played.

Kep, I pick RC by 14. I just think Velt played a lot weaker teams than you in district and Wakeland was the best team
that RC faced as well. I do not think that Velt can stop RC.
