I haven't seen any of them yet, BUT I heard from a reliable source that even though Giddings may have the better TEAM to this point of the season, CALDWELL is the BETTER Offense! Is this true???

that is not my intention with this question. Again, I have NOT seen Caldwell or Giddings. I am from SE Texas the home of West Orange Stark. I honestly heard from someone in your district that the BETTER of the two offenses between Giddings and Caldwell is Caldwell. Giddings OF COURSE has the better defense and better TEAM up to this point. I have no loyalty to Giddings or Caldwell or WOS for that matter.

statistics say Caldwell has the better offense...

the scoreboard says otherwise...

Giddings 21
Caldwell 7

I know what the scoreboard said, that's irrelvant to my question. Because Giddings' offense doesn't have to play against it's own defense. So, when you use a COMMON opponent then you're saying Caldwell is better statistically. Where do you find those stats? Also, why did Giddings' offense only score three times against Caldwell's defense? The big glaring fact I see here is that GIDDINGS is dominant on defense and CALDWELL is dominant than GIDDINGS on offense (against COMMON opponents).

Sounds like you've made up your mind already then.

Here are the numbers as far as points go. However, when you're blowing out a team...one of the biggest factors that comes into play is field position. Obviously, if you're only going 40 yards instead of 70 yards...you're likely to score more points.

What the numbers show me is that the talk of who has the "better offense" is a wash. Give Giddings the same number of points against Navasota and they're averaging 43.0 points per game. Both teams have good offenses...and it's a fair assumption to say that Giddings has the better defense. Fair enough???

That's why I love this site: People aren't jerks for the most part. You ask a legitimate question and you get legitimate answers. Thanks for the info on both teams!

How about the following scenario: If Giddings and Caldwell win, and WOS and Kirbyville win then you have some outstanding matchups next week!

Man, I love playoffs!

oops you're right. Keyed the numbers wrong. I didn't save that spreadsheet...but Caldwell's average should be 18.2 points. Thanks for pointing that out.

This probably has happened to caldwell too, but semi misleading in the numbers is that our defense didn't give up 6 against bellvilleat all (that was on the offense) and atleast 7 others were after a turn over inside our 15 against la grange.

Accounting for defenisive and special teams scores both by these two teams and their opponents, you get the following scoring averages.

Giddings: 34.2-12.6
Caldwell: 41.0-16.8

And to go a step deeper, here are the average yards per game, both for and against, using their common opponents.

Giddings: 385.0-242.8
Caldwell: 443.6-273.2

And in head to head competition, we have the following (yards-points)

Giddings: 302-21
Caldwell: 321-7

There are the stats, so decide for yourself. Keep in mind, however, that there are numerous other factors involved, like special teams. One of Giddings' scores that I removed was a punt return for a td. Special teams can set up short fields, reducing offensive yards for yourself or for your opponent if you have bad special teams. Good defenses can also create better field position, again decreasing offensive yards. Then you have games like Caldwell vs La Grange where it was 42-0 at halftime and Caldwell threw in the subs. So what yardage and points have come against these teams' second teams, and what offensive production is lost because of subbing? And of course, teams match up differently to other teams.

Based on my numbers, I'll make the generalized statement that Caldwell has had a more productive offense this year both in yardage and points, while Giddings has the better defense.

amen to that blue.

But from what little film ive seen on the two, i would have to say giddings has more threats. Fitzhenry himself is a bigger threat IMO than the Hornet backfield as a whole. But one person can be shut down, and hopefully, hopefully the hornets are the ones to do it! :D

Luckily it takes enough of the defense to stop our ONE person that other people are opened up...Dock and others...

All I can say is that from what I saw in the Caldwell v. Navasota game, Caldwell's offense appeared to be way more explosive than Giddings. The combo of Canto and Sims impressed me more than Fitzhenry and his role players.

If we play against Jasper/Splendora like we did last night against Needville, we'll get to see them close up in the 3rd round.

I've got faith... Our offense is as explosive as any team in our bracket, my opinion. And our defense proved it's not as bad as everyone seemed to think.

That's ok. I'd rather be the underdog anyways... It's always better when you knock off the big dogs.
