Any DL'ers have this console? If so, what do you think about it overall?

i bought one last weekend cause i want to play Assassains Creed when it comes out at the end of this week....so far im pretty happy w/ it, plus if you buy this holiday season you will get 5 free bluray dvds too (150 bucks) along w/ the 100 dollar price cut on the 80GB one thats a nice deal, wont say good cause it still an arm and a leg but its nice....

I saw the review on IGN on Assasins Creed, apparently it hasn't lived up to the hype.

IGN was one of the few that gave it an average rating. Gamepro said it was one of the better games they have played ever. Hopes were set very high, so its easy to see how some were disappointed by it.

Yeah, that's understandable. I'm going to rent it for sure. It came out on Monday, though...

I heard on the radio the other day that there is a website that you can go to and if you refer some many friends to the website they will give you a free 360 or PS3.

Ever heard of such? I would think that it was a scam if I saw it as a popup but hearing it on the radio gives it a tiny bit of credibility.

It's okay. I bought it because my son really gets into the
Ratchet and Clank series. He has all the games. The latest in the series,R & C future
tools of destruction, is only available on PS3. That game has turned
out to be a huge disappointment. The two prior in the series
are 10 times better.

the 80GB PS3s are 499 for the holidays...i guess if u consider the fact that you get 5 free bluray movies (you kinda get to pick which ones, its a list and you get to pick one from 5 categories) then its really 350, i also got a game free w/ it (MotorStorm which i have yet to play) so i guess you could say it was 300 if you count that...you can get the 40GB one for 399 but it isnt backward compatible (cant play your old PS and PS2 games on it) you get 5 free blurays plus Spiderman 3 in bluray w/ that one....

Not a bad deal at all. I may have to talk the folks into gettin me one for Christmas. My PS2 is about to go out on me, and I don't wanna be in the dorm with a Wii. Those things are terrible

i havent used the bluray player yet...does it matter if you dont have an HDTV? i havent bought one of those yet and it will be a while before i do....it seems to me it would be good for HDTV but maybe just like normal for a normal tv

The Blu Ray picture will be converted to 480i for a regular TV. There could possibly be small improvement over a regular DVD, due to the higher bitrate of the encode on the Blu Ray disc.

Only if the TV has a spot for component connections though, which most tube tv's still don't

It's not a cabling issue. Yes a component connection is going to look better than a composite or s-video, but that's not the issue here. The movie is being transferred to disc at 1920x1080 for Blu Ray compared to 640x480 for standard dvd. You will see less artifacting in the picture over any connection, even downconverted to 480i. Not going to be a drastic improvement, but if your looking for it, it is noticeable. My Sony rep recently demonstrated this while showing some upcoming products.

PS3 has some really good games, Resistance "fall of man" is probably the best game Ive ever played besides NCAA 08! O and Heavenly Sword is pretty good also. Im bout to try out Call of Duty 4

all 3 are reasons to have an X-Box

plus, you get (multiplatform)
Call of Duty 4 (the likely game of the year--since it's multiplatform)
The Orange Box
and GTA IV (when it comes out)

Resistance: Fall of Man is the only reason i have ever even thought of a PS3 (a truly great game)

but when your exclusives are Ratchet and Clank

Metal Gear Solid

i'd rather have the 360

there is a much larger online group, more streamlined online choices, and the most expensive option is 450$ for 120 GB hard drive

if the selling point of a system is the bluray player (and not the games or gaming element) then that's a sign

metal gear solid is a great game....taht will be a big seller for ps3....i wish they would go on and release the thing
