The following are statistics compiled using on-the-field results of EVERY football playoff game played in the UIL's 3rd largest classification going back 57 seasons to when the 5 classification system was first implemented in 1951 (2A records from 1951-1979 and 3A records from 1980-2007 are included). Over the past 56 seasons, a total of 407 different programs have qualified for the playoffs in the 'middle' classification. Here are the superlatives:

ONLY 3A records were included here, no 1A, 2A, 4A or 5A playoff appearances were factored in

A team that loses in the 3rd round would have a 2-1-0 record which = 66.67%

The information listed in the following tables is very basic, but hopefully informative. The numbers at the top are simply total number of appearances and the all-time win-loss-tie record. The columns are listings of individual years, classification and subclassification (division 1 or 2), playoff advancement and the win-loss-tie total for each particular year. On-the-field records were used in calculating all win-loss totals listed.

The playoff advancements are color-coded, and the rules used in naming rounds of advancement are as follows:

Only teams that played in a state championship game are listed in blue with the actual winner listed in Bold
Teams that made the final 4 or 8 of their respective brackets are listed in Red and this includes the lower classification regional champs and regional finalists that did not have the opportunity to play for a state title.
Teams that advanced at least past the first round but did not advance far enough to make the final 8 of their tournaments are listed in Green

Complete records of every current 1A, 2A, 4A and 5A program in the state are already posted at the links below. Similar postings for all historical playoff programs that no longer exist are in the works

Amazing. Unless I missed it, Giddings is not on one single list. And yet they are still generally disliked!

Have fun explaining things to all the people who can't read! :D

I wonder how many times someone will ask about a school because wins etc... weren't accumulated while in "3A."

For the Record Marshall in 1988 is offically undefeated in play-offs because Carter vacated title and the 22-18 win in the quarterfinals

This really makes you understand the significance of Palacios making the playoffs this year. They were State champs in 1964 and haven't returned to the playoffs since then.:)

With both defending state champs from 2006 going Division I, Palacios is entering the Division II playoffs with the longest playoff game winning streak of the entire field (5 in a row, haven't lost a playoff game in 44 years!)

When you look and see all the schools without a bolded blue "State Champs" in their history, it really puts last year into perspective and makes me realize just how special of a season that was.

After reading this. I am going to have to give La Grange and Cameron an Atta boy for past achievements.

I guess I didn't realize how much that they had accomplised.

Giddings has come on as of late.

Look like we have been to the playoffs every year since 98'. With the exception of 04..

Speaking of which did you look at Sealy in the 90's....

I still can't believe how amazing their run was.

OK, That is just fricken awesome data. Does anyone notice that Vernon has been in this 3A game the least amount of time and seems to be in the top of every catagory ? The streak list is misleading. Vernon made the playoffs for 14 years in a row not 11. They went back and forth to 4A in the early 80's and went deep there as well. Please add Vernon to the longer steak. At least add the previous 2 3A seasons that we made it to the playoffs between the 2 4A seasons. Technically that is part of a 3A streak right ?

Harsh ! I was just making a point, Vernon didnt MISS the playoffs the years prior to that streak they were in 4A as regional finalist adn were 3A before that in the playoffs. Just making a point of pride that we should be also up there in the long streaks.

Well, Vernon DIDN'T make 14 consecutive appearances in the 3rd largest classification playoffs.

Another interesting note is that on the highest winning % Vernon in 1992 and Cuero of 1994 are up there even though they didnt win state. Vernon lost a "who has the ball last" game against SLC. Who did Cuero lose to that year ?

I disagree, Every year they were in 3A during those years they made the playoffs. As a point of pride I like to point out that when they went o 4A on both occasions they went to the playoffs in the higher classification as well.

Sorry to have to break this to you, but Vernon's all-time record is NOT 14 consecutive playoff appearances...

it's 16 consecutive playoff appearances 1983-1998

It would be the longest streak in 3A, except that Vernon was 4A for the 1st, 4th and 5th years of the streak.... that would only make 13 in 3A if I gave you those two years ('84 and '85) so Commerce still has the longest streak of making the 3A playoffs at 15 in a row no matter which way you look at it. Pilot Point is 3A now, but they were 1A and 2A when they went 22 years in a row.

Since it's not included in the stats above... here's a special ranking just for the folks from Vernon :D

Longest Consecutive Playoff Appearance Streaks of All-Time 1920-2006

31 Consecutive Years
Houston Yates (1977-2007)

23 Consecutive Years
Corpus Christi Calallen (1985-2007)

22 Consecutive Years
Pilot Point (1979-2000)

20 Consecutive Years
Austin Westlake (1988-2007)

18 Consecutive Years
Dallas Carter (1990-2007)
Dallas Kimball (1990-2007)
La Marque (1990-2007)
Waxahachie (1990-2007)

17 Consecutive Years
Converse Judson (1982-1998)
Katy (1991-2007)

16 Consecutive Years
Vernon (1983-1998)

it's 16 consecutive playoff appearances 1983-1998

It would be the longest streak in 3A, except that Vernon was 4A for the 1st, 4th and 5th years of the streak.... that would only make 13 in 3A if I gave you those two years ('84 and '85) so Commerce still has the longest streak of making the 3A playoffs at 15 in a row no matter which way you look at it. Pilot Point is 3A now, but they were 1A and 2A when they went 22 years in a row.

Since it's not included in the stats above... here's a special ranking just for the folks from Vernon :D

Longest Consecutive Playoff Appearance Streaks of All-Time 1920-2006

31 Consecutive Years
Houston Yates (1977-2007)

23 Consecutive Years
Corpus Christi Calallen (1985-2007)

22 Consecutive Years
Pilot Point (1979-2000)

20 Consecutive Years
Austin Westlake (1988-2007)

18 Consecutive Years
Dallas Carter (1990-2007)
Dallas Kimball (1990-2007)
La Marque (1990-2007)
Waxahachie (1990-2007)

17 Consecutive Years
Converse Judson (1982-1998)
Katy (1991-2007)

16 Consecutive Years
Vernon (1983-1998)
Refugio (1992-2007)

Awesome info. Not that anyone cares, but Ft. Stockton did not win in 2006 as they were given credit for. They get a bye in the first round. They lost in their first game of the playoffs (second round) last year and this year. In fact, they haven't won a single playoff game in school history!:bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry:

Ft. Stockton in Region 1 has never won a playoff game. You show them to have won 1 in 2006. They lost to Andrews after a bye week.
