i really feel sorry for SMU. I dont think they will ever recover from the death penalty.

Sure they will, as soon as they start going out there and signing the best players that money can buy again. There is bound to be an SMU booster with deep pockets that is growing very weary of losing out there somewhere. The NCAA will leave SMU alone this time because they know how bad they screwed it up last time. The Pony Express will ride again! Oh yes it will!
