Produced a great RB in Adrian Peterson! Awesome RB!

What other PRO players from the 3A ranks?

Adrian Peterson is the best thing to come from Palestine since Jesus Christ!

Houston Texans kicker was a QB at SLC when they were 3a in 92

Fairfield produced 3 former players Louis Cheek (A&M college then Packers Cowboys and a few other teams in the pros) Winfred Tubbs (UT college, Saints and 49ers in NFL) Tony Brackens (UT college, Jaguars in NFL) Tony is the sack leader for the Jacksonville franchise and made several pro bowls and was a 99 on Madden 64.

My HS football coach left Abilene and went to Palestine in 74 or 75 and has since retired and moved back to Abilene. He coached a kid named Guy Brown while in Palestine that played at UH and then started at linebacker for the Cowboys for about 5 or 6 years back in the 80s. Bill Bradley (UT quarterback and Philadelphia Eagle DB) was also from Palestine. He was probably best known for getting beat out by James Street at QB in mid season the year they won it all in 69 or 70 whenever it was. But he ended up having a great career at the next level as a DB. Quite an athlete.

this is going back a piece but Elmo Wright (who probably invented the endzone dance) for the Kansas City Chiefs was from Sweeney. I think they were 3A back then.

It is SWEENY (no -ey, often misspelled). Actually were AA in 1966 but classifications have changed since then. State Champs in 1966 & a phenomenal team full of talent after integration.

We have had 9 guys make it to the pros (Elmo Wright, Clarence Williams, Raymond Butler, Jimmie Lindsey won 2 Grey Cups in CFL, Tracey Simien, George Layne Jr., Kevin Garrett, Cedric Woodard, & Johnnie Higgins). Others have played Arena Ball, USFL, etc. We had a thread on this a while back.

Currently, Johnnie Lee Higgins, Jr. is a rookie with the Oakland Raiders. #15 WR/KR from UTEP, 3rd round pick & can fly.

Elmo Wright is a class act & lots of talented relatives. Rod Wright (All-American at Texas, now with Miami) is his nephew. Elmo started end zone dancing at UH & continued in the pros with KC Chiefs & others. NFL Network even gives him credit for it! Eddie Wright is currently Sweeny's FB right now, another nephew.

Bill Bradley was a helluva player for sure. I remember more as a DB with Eagles than at Texas (I am 37). But he did some good things at Texas too.
